I know it’s been discussed before but I’m curious if anyone has heard any recent rumblings of a new Colt in 44 mag. I don’t yet own a Colt, and would be interested to see what a new offering would be.

Let’s not go down the “Well they shouldn’t call it an Anaconda or reuse names.” path please. I don’t really care if it’s called a “Blastifier” or “King Kong”, as long as the design is functional, durable, and aesthetically tasteful.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat, simply just because … but especially if it were as well made, accurate and came with a trigger as good as the triggers in my Cobra and King Cobra. Haven't heard anything, but Colt was pretty quick to respond to people who wanted the new Cobra in .357 after the introduction of the Cobra 2017.

Why not?

I'm kind of expecting (and hoping) both Kimber and Colt to eventually enter the hunting handgun market.

After that (or simultaneously) enter the competition market with 8 shot guns built on the large frame.

I could be in for one or the other personally.

My understanding is that the computer models for the Cobra are "Scaleupable" if there is such a word. It is my great hope that they make a larger scale revolver. I'd like to see a 44 too. My personal favorite would be a 44 special. Maybe even a run of 41s for the fans of that caliber. I think it would be nice to keep the snake names going. I can see a black mamba, timber rattler, copperhead, cottonmouth, or tiger snake. The list goes on.

It seems a logical progression but obviously a larger frame size is needed. Makes me wonder if they’ll bite.

I think the word is up scalable.

I'd love to see the Anaconda come back. It didn't have the hand fitted action of the Python so it would certainly be possible. If I remember right it was a scaled up King Cobra.

...I wouldn't mind a 22lr "Garden Snake"

I would like to see a large frame appear, also, in .44 Mag and .45 Colt. I think they will probably bring out a few more reditions of the small frame first such as one like a Diamondback ( I would like to see a 4" with adjustable sights). This will give them time to make any needed adjustments to the design. What
would really be nice would be to see a 5" large frame along Anaconda lines and perhaps a 3" for the "Alaskan" crowd.

I guess there's no word on the streets yet. That's ok. I'm patient.

I'd like to see what Ruger's Super GP100 evolves into. A 6 shot 44 or 454 in that configuration might scratch the itch.

4-shot?

I said I'd like to see the Anaconda come back but what I'd really like is a modern version of the New Service Shooting Master.

Cant understand why Colt doesn't get it's act together. S&W owns the market even though they have this obnoxious trigger lock that nobody wants. Seems to me that Colt should seize the opportunity and pick up where they left off sans the trigger lock.
By the way I love the garden snake idea, although I'd like to see it in a Match Target semi.

I handled a new King Cobra the other day. I don’t really need another 3” 357, but if they chambered that same gun in 22lr and gave it a 4” barrel I’d be all over it.

I was lucky enough to get a Python and an Anaconda before the prices went over four figures for the two of them. The Python is Bambi, this is Thumper.

I heard from a retired Colt gunsmith who was kind enough to "Pythonize" my Anaconda trigger that the reason Colt bestowed that name on the .44 was that the Anaconda is the largest snake in the world and the .44 was the largest revolver Colt planned on making. I heard he had passed away before the turn of the century. He'd lived in the retirement community to which my parents had moved in the 70's.

They made some 45 Colts. Maybe most powerful though. They never went 454 correct?

Not to my knowledge. My Dad's service revolver for the PD was a 1950 or 51 Colt Official Police, so that was the first handgun I ever shot. Always had a soft warm place in my heart for Colts. Not that I don't own Ruger, S&W, etc. but there just was always something special, to me, about the Prancing Pony guns.(Shameless tip of the hat to the Lord Of The Rings)

Ha! Sure enough, in the town of Bree.

I’ve always had a soft spot too. I had a chance to buy a LNIB King Cobra like six or seven years back for $800. Still kicking myself for passing it up.

With today's technology and CNC machining, the introduction of new models and other calibers is very viable. Look at Ruger lately. Oddball stuff seems top be their new norm when it comes to revolvers. What is comes down to is, demand, cost and profit margin. No body is going to produce a line of firearms to lose monies or even break even. While everyone on online forums said they'd jump thru hoops to get a new revolver produced by Colt, it didn't really happen, and may very well be why Colt has been hesitant to produce too many different revolvers. They still have to answer to their stockholders. While hunting revolvers have really taken off lately, they are still a low demand item, especially compared to SD/HD handguns in general. S&W, Ruger and others have good dibs on that market already with highly affordable and reliable products. New Colts would probably be more expensive and harder to get than those already produced without giving folks much more other than being able to say they owned a "Snake". While I would like to see Colt stay in and expand on their revolver line, I wouldn't hold my breath hoping to see them match Ruger or S&W with a hunting line.
