I had to sell 2 pistols to finance this little guy but it is drop dead gorgeous, a 1988 MK IV Series 80 Colt Officers model , got to say I'm tickled with it OCUgLeU.jpg

I brought it home and took it straight out to my range to get a feel for it, that short barrel does not tolerate any wiggles or bobbles but it did the job , this was my first time shooting it and I started at 7 yards and I was shooting at the rim of the cup, I flinched a few low and gripped too hard throwing a few high but we quickly became friends, other than a gritty trigger

the gritty trigger was do to grunge, it has been in my friends safe for several years so I tore it down to the frame but left the fire controls in it, ( not confident I can put it back together without breaking something) then sprayed it down with Kroil oil and scrubbed evrything with a polymer brush, blew it out with air, wiped everything down and relubed it and put it back together, that smoothed everything up a lot and made it look a lot better too

found a previous owners name under the right grip while cleaning it

after I got it all together it was all nice and shiney

I think this one will be with me for a long time to come :)

Mongo, I have the same gun except mine is rosewood on blue.... Got mine way back when and never seen a SS or I would have had both. For years it was my main ccw.... I have never had a problem with mine and it has been very accurate for me..... Great gun and love that pony on the side... good luck bet your gonna love it.

I have a SS Enhanced version from 1994-5 from the Colt Custom Shop.. Its sweet but you can cut yourself on the sharp edges. It’s a wicked toy. Because of the sharp edges on the slide I picked up a couple of new 1991 Compact Pistols in Black Parkerization while they were available. Replaced the springs and grips. Wolf makes a better guide rode and single spring. Have wrap around Colt rubber grips with the logo but occasionally use Colt wood grips. Use 7 round Chip McCormick SS mags. It is great. Will try to post pic

Yes indeed that's one sweet looking Officers ACP Model alright! My first one I traded to a friend of mine to get a Combat Commander back that I had sold him years ago (had to throw in one of those surplus Walther P1s to make the deal but it was worth it). Saved up my money and picked up another matte blued model at a local gun show where I had several to choose from. The one I got had a decent trigger out of the box and I have found over the years it prefers 185 gr. and 200 gr. ammo to the usual 230 gr. FMJ. Though I currently have the original checkered walnut grips on, Pachmayr grips go a long way in getting a good grip on the gun and lessening some of the felt recoil.

I bought one new back in the 80's as I recall. It was 100% reliable, but suffered from what we called "the automatic syndrome" which simply means that the first shot always goes off & in my case it always went left & I'm not talking an inch or two. I let sever others shoot it to verify & promptly got rid of it. I did call Colt to see if they would fix it & they thought I was nuts.

Have to concur in liking the Officer's

Had mine since 18 July 1985. Grips are Hogue; "arched" mainspring is Pachmyr. It's been rubbed down with a silicone cloth a zillion times to keep that original black oxide finish from blushing red (sigh).

Occasionally, I kick myself for passing on one at a gunshow that matched the larger one in elctroless nickle for thining it was "too high" at around $590 or so. C'est la vie, say our French friends.

do any of you guys have an EGW recoil assembly in your Officers model?

This is my 1991A1 Compact (the enlisted man's OACP:)) that Clark did their Meltdown package in the late '90s. I had it refinished and some other work done on it a while back and Joe Chambers put a new gold bead front sight on it last year. It's one of my favorites.
