How do you completely remove the base pin on a 5.5" Ruger Old Army? Its easy on a 7.5". Thinking about a base pin conversion but want to retain the original parts.

It should be the same as the 7 1/2" model. Is the keeper that holds the base pin rotated fully counter clockwise?

You can't. The short stainless versions have a screw to hold the lug in place, the rest are permanently attached. Yours must be a blued version?

A-HA! Mine is a blued model and does have a screw holding the barrel retaining lug in place. The lug and screw are not shown in the owner's manual
illustrated parts breakdown.
Thanks

Great!! We both learned something!! The only "short" ROAs I've worked on have all been S.S. with fixed sights (CASS guns). They have the screw but figured the blue didn't since you were having trouble.

Thank you!
Mike

I must be missing something here, are you talking about the cylinder pin or another part? Please enlighten me on this one.

Ok, so why would removal of the base pin on a 5.5 inch be any different than on a 7 inch barrel? This is where I'm confused.

The 7.5” and the 5.5” both have the same Base Pin. The retaining lug on the 7’5”
Is further ahead on the barrel than the 5,5”, the loading levers are also different lengths.
When you drop the loading lever down on the 7.5” the extra space forward allows you to
withdraw the Base Pin completely from the frame. (Without removing the lug from the frame)
