my dad said the soda bottles work, we had 4 or 5 mec presses but were lost in the 2011 flooding.
I couldn't believe it took two pages before the pop bottle trick came up!

I have a mec 600 Jr that needs bottles and a primer feeder, and maybe a different powder and shot bushing depending on what load you use. Got it cheap, it's yours for shipping if you really think you can save some $$ reloading. Might get there with turkey loads. I will see what sized flat rate box I can fit it in...

yes please see what shipping would be, id give it some good use.my little home made shot maker made some pretty good #4 or #5 shot. i would like to maybe make some slugs one day and some buck so a sizer for shells is handy.

I used to load. 177 bbs in some of my shot shells they carried a lot of energy down range.
As was mentioned you don't have to get mec bottles as long as you can thread into charge bar.

Had an old 12 ga 600 jr and found answer one in 20 ga and gave both to my SIL. Along with wads and shot.

none of my shotguns are rated for still shoot, i always wondered if those 177 bbs would work good, they used to be cheap.

Shot is $43 and primers are $4.45 at Cabela's in Michigan!

You will save money when shooting non standard loadings or the smaller gauges (28 & 410).
I shoot 3/4 oz. in 20 gauge and a light 7/8 oz. in 12 gauge.
I've bought powder and wads at Estate sales and gun shows much cheaper than over the counter.
Cabela's/BASS have never been a good place for reloading components - the internet is your friend

i am looking to maybe get a shotshell press, hope to keep it cheap so used is the way to go. like to find a mec 600 jr set up for 12ga. i don't shoot many shells and only 2 3/4 small game loads with #6 shot. the 600 jr looks like all i need, or should i just get a lee loader. only think i will load around 500 a year.

I hate to dampen your dreams, but your volumes are at adds with your purpose.

Even if you get a shot shell press for FREE, you cannot do it "cheaply" because of the cost of shot. At most common outlets 25lbs of shot is $50 or more. Amazon has it for $60 !!

Even if your club sells recycled shot, unless you need special loads, loading your own shot shells is generally a waste of time. You can simply buy a flat of loaded shot shells, at or very near the cost you can make them.

And if you have never loaded shot shells, it is NOT like metallic cartridges. You have specific hulls, matched to specific wads, matched to specific powders AND primers. Zero experimentation is allowed. I suggest you do your research first.

i make my own shot, i have loaded shot shells when i was younger. i have loaded brass shells my hole life.

I reload my 12 gauge loads for $3.50/box. I buy in bulk, through my club, which means no freight or hazmat. You are correct in that it is not like metallic; that said there ARE a lot of acceptable (and safe) component substitutions. ALL Remington and Winchester AA hulls can use the same wad, all federal and Euro straight-walled hulls can use the same wad. Some primers are acceptable as pressure differences are minimal. Clone wads can be subbed for OEM.

The lighter loading are easier on the shoulder and cost much less to make.
Remington Gun Clubs can be had for just picking them off the ground or
local trash can. Right now they are the shell of choice for reloading.
You have to start shopping everywhere for wads, primers, and shot.
The last 2000 Winchester 209's from a estate sale for $25/1000.
I've found powder at estate sales, you just have to deal with the sales people.
They want to get rid of the stuff. One time I walked away with about 10
pounds powder of various types $15. Some I can use, what I don't can go
on the lawn!

you're missing a few parts - wad guide, primer seating, bottles of course, the little plastic tray for spent primers; I WOULD add the auto primer feed, great accessory.

Troy I fired those bbs out of my rem 11-48 12 ga modified choke. I picked it up used when I was 16 it was probably 20 yrs old when I got it. I don't think it was rated for steel either but it worked and had no issues.

Maybe it's the angle, but it looks like the crimp starter assy. is missing, too. That's a 600 Jr. MkV, parts list is here: https://www.mecoutdoors.com/600-jr-mark-5-parts Do as MEC says at the top of the schematic; use their dealer finder; parts are cheaper through the dealers.
I can take more pictures if needed. Looking over the parts schematic in the link I think its mostly complete. I loaded one shell on it last year just to see if I could and it came out alright. Maybe I got lucky even missing steps. Like I said I didn't take it very far...

FWIW, there were two stores here locally with both gun Clubs and top guns for 4.99/box, plus tax.
I have five shotshell presses and use the progressives for trap and skeet shells and the 700 and 600s for the special loads like hunting, buckshot and slugs. Since I have four slug moulds I can load practice stuff very cheaply.
I think you could have fun loading but predict no real $ savings.

I'm helping a woman liquidate her late husbands reloading gear.

I know there are two MEC presses that I haven't gotten to yet. I'm told there is one in 20 gauge and one in 12 gauge. I'll get my hands on them next week.

I also have a Ponsness/Warren 375 in 12 gauge available.
