I am still searching for a (nicer) 9mm; I was leaning toward the Sig P226 but I have shied away due to the finish issues I posted about earlier.
I have been reading a bunch about the CZ “Shadow” variants - they seem like a lot of gun for the money. I can buy a new Shadow SP-01 Target for a similar (close but higher) price of the 226 so the small difference in cost is not a variable. I like the “all steel” build (I am old school) and the Browning High Power look. My readings on this handgun leans toward stellar.
Again for those who know, what are your thoughts - thanks.

The Shadow 2 and Shadow Target II are two different guns (similar internals, but very different frames).

They are both very nice guns. Here's the Target II:

Here's the Shadow 2:

Both are very fine guns. The differences are mostly ergonomics - it's all about which grip suits you better. Both see a lot of use in USPSA/IPSC production class, and the Shadow 2 was specifically designed to be the best-in-the-world gun for that division (they basically adopted many of the things that the Tanfoglio Stock 2 had - copying back from the people who had copied from CZ in the first place!). In comparison, the Sig P22X series gets almost no serious use in that game, despite being perfectly legal for production division. You can draw your own conclusions about what that says regarding the actual shooting performance of these guns.

Now, all of that said, not many people are buying CZ pistols because of the finish. If you're expecting some old-school deep bluing, you're going to be disappointed. CZ nitrides and polycoats things. I think they're good looking guns, but nobody will confuse them for a Ford's high-polish blue job!

I have and shoot a CZ 75 SP01 Shadow from the custom shop.

It is the best most accurate gun (9mm) that I own.

The CZ Poly finish is damn tough and I have no indication of wear, scratches or faded and it has been shot, cleaned a LOT!
CZs are damn fine guns!

Tac Sport original, not the Tac Sport Orange? Are they even still making the original?
Sorry. Yes I meant the orange. They make an urban grey also.

I was in a self defense class this weekend that had a range session. Follow the commands of the RO, fire volleys of five shots at various distances.

What I noticed is out of 17 students, I and two other guys had similar group sizes that were smaller than anyone else’s, but only two of us three scored 100%. One of them shot competitively. But I also noticed I was easily shooting 3 times faster than anyone else in class including that guy. Maybe he wasn’t pushing it. I typically had two shots on target before anyone else had even fired and was reloading before anyone else was done shooting. I almost felt like they didn’t fire until I started us off. I wasn’t intentionally trying to shoot faster than anyone, but I train for defense, so that means getting rounds on target fast.

It sort of wet my appetite a little for competition. I mean I’d suck ass compared to most any competitor, but I kind of enjoyed the challenge. It also made me realize that if I let the challenge of getting hits on target faster than other people drive me, it would only enhance my defensive shooting skills.

So now I’m returning to this debate in my mind. I have handled a Shadow 2 and really liked it. I think it’s probably a better choice for me as a gaming gun as a DA/SA is more what I’d carry for defense.

CZ seems to have waves of availability and unavailability with many of its higher-end/niche items. Which is quite common for import brands. Maybe once they have their U.S. manufacturing facility fully up and running it won't be that way.

I recently sold my P220 and P226 and bought a CZ Shadow 2. The Sigs were fine pistols but the ergonomics just didn't fit me well. The Shadow 2 is unbelievable. It is very accurate and has a great trigger. I like that it's all steel. Now I'm thinking about selling my G19 and getting a CZ P-01.

Earlier this week Deguns.net had a bunch of cz’s in. As I recall they had 75d’s pcr for $589. I have bought from them in the past with no problems.
