Well if you think about it, how long does it take to get your cleaning supplies together, disassemble your firearm, clean and lube it, then reassemble, clean up your mess, and store the firearm? Depending on the gun, could be 30-45 minutes. Not for a revolver, but my M1-A, easily that long. My leverguns, definitely. Maybe more. Then factor in the cost of supplies. I can change the oil in my truck in 20 minutes, start to finish, for exactly $25. And that’s with Mobil 1 and a Wix filter. But how many of us pay $40-$80 to have our oil changed just so we don’t have to or don’t have the time to? Hell, how many don’t even know how? I can answer that. A lot of people (men very much included) don’t know how.

I’ll never pay someone to clean my guns or change my oil. But I can see why people do.

As for pollsters and polls, they are just tools used to try and sway public opinion. Most people won’t knowingly vote for the losing side. So if they can convince (the low information voter) that someone has no chance, there will be some that change their vote.

As for the pundits......no comment.

We clean guns for customers too. When they ask how much it costs to have their gun cleaned I reply with "How dirty is it?"
This was after cleaning a customer's Glock. One single Glock.

How someone can spend multiple Benjamins on a gun, or anything for that matter, and not learn how to take care of it. A Glock costs circa $400. The appropriate cleaning kit is less than $11. If you buy the cleaning kit, not even the gun, from me I'll show you how to use it. Yet the dirty guns come in, get cleaned, paid for and leave. <shrug>
 
I read the original post before the first response was made. I even typed a response, decided that I could not word it so that it didn't sound snooty, and deleted it. What with the distrust of our political leaders I would not expect an accurate poll on the internet. Maybe if you ask your friends and acquaintances in person. Maybe!

I hope this does not sound too snooty!:)

When my wife bought her first gun and we went to the range, that night I got out my cleaning box and she insisted on my showing her how to clean her new gun. Prior to that when she shot mine I just cleaned them, but this was her new baby.
I get to clean my guns at work as a range trip for me consists of one or two guns each time. Friends of mine clean their guns after a range trip while watching tv. Doesn't take a lot of paying attention once the gun is stripped down and the process is started.

A lot of people just say what they publicly want known about them. I don't put a lot of faith in polls.

It isn't so much that the polls are not accurate. They may, or may not be. They probably are accurate, but Fox News' poll is outdated.
The polls will be very different after the Democrats wittle their wanna-bes down to 1.
They may change again as we are weeks or days away from the election.

So, the polls are not inaccurate .... but they are meaningless.
 
Most of my life I only owned 2 guns, then I joined the military. I bought 6 while enlisted. The rest is history, lately I’m on a Stainless Steel Ruger Mk II addiction. I’ve acquired 3 this year alone. I love the used rack at my local gun stores.

I don't own half of what I used to.
Big D cleaned me out, have yet to replace all that was lost.
But am older, and just don't need or do as much as I used to.


IIRC think it took 13 firearms just to hunt everything around me.
Lemme see.....

.22rf for small game (a rifle and a pistol).
.22mag for intermediate varmint,
centerfire for long range varmint

shotguns, specific to....waterfowl, deer, turkey, general and small gauge for upland (five).

MZ for deer. PCR for deer, HP for deer, handgun for deer (4 more).

Yup, 13

That just to hunt ;)
 
I've shot a variety over the years and while I liked a lot of them, just don't need to have a bunch.
Am a user, not collector and don't get out like I used to.
Had a great place to hunt not far and had a wonderful 20 years.

But things change.
Hunting buds move away.

Ya get old and cranky and don't go at activities full blast.

So today I have a small fraction of what I used to.
And it doesn't bother me.....too much ;)

There's a 629-1 at my LGS.
And I want an HK VP9

Lo and behold an old magnum Wingmaster popped up, clean.
Good price too.

I let all three pass.

Got the cash too. But I hang onto it pretty tight these days.
Kid medical and other, never know when I'll get popped for hefty bill.

My dad is retired, was b*tching about BK raising the price of coffee 5 cents.
But then he orders some mini Sharps rifle in .22 hornet, and a DSA lightweight FAL.

I heard once about this still-primitive tribe deep in Africa somewhere. In their spoken language, they only had words for the numbers one, two, and three.

Beyond that, they just used a word that meant "more than three."

The one thing I hate to do is clean them, but I must admit, it's the first thing I want to do after I return from the range. Now, my LAST gun I bought is an absolute pleasure to clean. Ruger Mark IV Lite, I use for steel challenges. Wish all my guns were this easy to clean. Only other that comes close is a Taurus PT-22.

Lol, at the time I was wagering on the internet. The kind that you bet daily like the stock market. I had been doing very well with my predictions and wagers. I will never forget when CNN came out with the Poll and said that Hillary would win with over 300 electoral votes. Man, I was ecstatic. And all the CNN Professional experts were calling for a big win. It was music to my ears. I then bet full tilt on Trump. It was then that I realized the Liberals were even more stupid than I had always thought. Needless to say, I came out a huge winner. As in "HUGE"!
I never play the polls. It is a fools game.

Glocks don't need to be cleaned till they malfunction.... that's what I was taught anyway.
 
I'd be more inclined to believe a poll that indicated increasingly more gun owners have been unwilling to divulge their status to people taking polls. I'd be more prone to believe that the number of gun owners isn't declining, but the people willing to acknowledge they're gun owners has been declining (meaning wising up to anti-gun sentiment and often open hostility toward them).

I came across some combined source numbers recently that indicated there were possibly more than 418 MILLION legally owned guns presently in the US. I'd think those numbers are probably an underestimation.

I've never met or seen as many new gun owners in all my years living in CA as I've seen and met in the last 4-5 years.

Some "surveys" claim there are 4 million gun owners in CA, and others indicate there are more than 8 million lawful gun owners in CA. But sales here have been skyrocketing in the state in recent years, and that's with some of the most complex and egregious state laws on the books of any state. There were waiting lines in some of the gun stores I checked in recent years (it subsided with the last presidential election's results). I stood at counters and listened to people buying their first guns ever, and listened to many of them sound shocked and annoyed that they had to wait 30 days before they could buy another one. Some husbands and wives (or boyfriends/girlfriends, SO's, whatever) were buying one each, and asking about cleaning supplies and buying ammo in bulk. LOTS of people who had never owned guns were waiting their turn buying them. I'd never witnessed that before in gun stores since I was old enough to buy a handgun in the 70's.
