Anyone have any issues with the standard .452 Hornady 250gr XTP out of the Bushmaster? I have some sitting on the shelf and figured I'd give them a go with some LilGun powder in Starline brass.

Thoughs/concerns?

I have used the same components for 450 BM with decent results. I had that bullet going about 2300 fps with accuracy being slightly better than 2 MOA at 100 yards.

Copy that. I’ve seen positive and negative comments on other forums with that bullet and thought I’d tap into our cadre knowledge base here

Yeah I have seen/read that too. I never shot any critters with the bullet and the 450 Bushmaster are definitely going to be pushing the 250gr HP/XTP above the impact velocity for that bullet. The 300gr XTP/MAG is really a better XTP fit for the 450 Bushmaster. That said I wouldn't want to get hit by a 250gr HP going upwards of 2300 fps no matter what. A deer and lighter critters it will no doubt do the job.

We will be using them for break in and target shooting for now. He’s not a big hunting guy and wanted a big bore AR for fun.

I’ve shot several deer with 240 gr .430 bullets from a muzzleloader and I recovered all of them. They all were through and through shots and the deer ran over 100 yds every time with a few going over 200. That is the only reason I don’t like them.

They have never let me down but I was lucky the deer didn’t run straight towards the property line.
