I've used most of the coated bullets out there and ACME is what I use for 38/357 and 45 Colt. I use others for different calibers, such as the Blue Bullets for 9.

ACME seems to be about the most consistent in terms of dimensions & weights per batch as well as some of the most consistent (visually) coatings. Also ship in a nice wooden box if you like that sort of thing.

FYI, Brazos Bullet Company bullet weight variance of 100 Hi-Tek coated 9mm 125 gr RN produced 87 bullets within 1.0 grain and rest within 2.0 grains, which is pretty good for coated lead bullets (as many lead bullets can vary by a few grains) - http://www.brazosprecision.com/Bullet-Weight-Variation-of-Brazos-Bullets_b_4.html

I have seen average swings of 3-4 grains and as much as 5-7 grains in weight variance with lead/coated lead bullets depending on brand/caliber/weight.

BTW, I prefer to see less than 1.0 gr weight variance from "match grade" jacketed bullets like Montana Gold and often seeing less than 0.5 gr weight variance from RMR in-house jacketed bullets.

All this talk of bullet weight consistency.

Last fall on a cold and rainy night I got bored to tears but I just happened to have a brand new box of Xtreme 115gr RN, so out of my boredom I started weighing bullets and sorting them. When all was said and done the variance spread was 1.1gr over 500 bullets. About 60% weighed in at 115.3 to 115.5gr, next were the 115.6/115.7 group and then the 115.2/115.0 The next biggest group was 114.9... The rest were less than a dozen in a group.

The 115.3/115.5 group were so evenly grouped I put those all together into one group and loaded them that way. Same with the other two larger groups. When it came time to shoot them I didn't see any on target difference though it would have been nice to run them thru a chronograph.

And then of course comes weighing the brass of all the same headstamp and lot number and then shooting off hand claiming the variance was what gave poor grouping at 10 yards.:) What else could it be other than the Sun??

Titan Reloading in Hartford stocks ACME Bullets! That should be just a short drive for you! Prices looks comparative also.

Titan isn't too far. Haven't been in there for a while. I'm in the Mequon area and Acme is in Germantown.

It is too bad they do not offer a Will Call Pick Up. There is a shop down here that stocks them but I haven't tried any as of yet. I'm just south of Lake Geneva.

If you haven't considered, especially for BHN, check out Brazos Bullet Company started by a match shooter as they sell lubed lead and Hi-Tek coated bullets at very good prices - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ponents-on-sale.707473/page-178#post-11156312

Since many of my loads are lighter target loads, I like 12/18 BHN of MBC bullets (Lubed lead and Hi-Tek coated) and 14-16 BHN of Z-Cast bullets (Lubed lead only .38 Spl 158 gr RNFP $31/500) over other harder cast bullets. Brazos advertises 13 BHN for their bullets and I am thinking about trying some of their bullets.

With code: HIGHROAD1901 until 6/30/19 you'll get 10% off Hi Tek coated bullets or wax lubed bullets. Free shipping on 60 lbs or more.

Gotta say, "Thanks!" If anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer. Our goal is to make perfect bullets and sell at the lowest possible prices. People are loving them!

Both are great, I buy from both, and oddly the poll let me check both boxes and vote for both at once :)

There are certain projectiles I buy from both. Neither has given me any trouble with bad quality, slow shipment, wrong qty, etc. Just good stuff at good prices from both. Like others have said I like the ACME wood crates too but don't really have a use for them. But the MBC boxes are better to store and pull from. MBC in an actual re-closable cardboard box, ACME in a cool crate, but bulk plastic bag inside and can't really re-crate it. Not a big deal - most of us are used to dealing with bulk projectiles in bags..... but that's about the biggest difference I can note between them - how the stuff is packaged.

Also note the ACME discount code (& I don't remember a THR one - I use one from a different forum) only works for regular amounts - the bulk packs of like 6k or so, no discount code (but price per is still less than buying 3k with 10% off). So cheaper to buy 6k with no code vs 2 x 3k with 10% off....just don't think that great bulk price is going to get further discounted - which would be a steal :)

Voted ACME as I’ve shot a lot of their bullets. Really impressed with them. Buy with confidence.

Just so happens there’s a box from Brazos sitting on the garage floor. Arrived a couple of days ago. Mailman’s mad, wife drug’em out of mailbox to haul to the house and she’s mad. That’s over 2600 158 grain 38/357 bullets in that box. I’m excited! Don’t know what’s wrong with these other kill joys. A box of bullets is all always a good thing in my book. Anyway, just went out there and opened them up. First Brazos for me and they look really good. I’m impressed. With discount and full box order they were about a nickel apiece. Now if the disc between my shoulder blades and arthritic shoulder would calm down I’ll pick’em up and carry’em to the reloading room.

We’re in the “shining times” of reloading. They’re cheap so stack’em deep.
