Welcome to the responsibilities of gun ownership. Sincerely.

No one cares how well you shoot.

Everyone cares how safely you shoot.

Keep the muzzle pointed down range at ALL times.

If someone else at the range is not safe or courteous, leave and try again another day.

Having an experienced shooter as a mentor is priceless.

Good luck, have fun, check in with us often and post pictures! :)

Your gun is always loaded.
A great shooting bag is a canvas tool bag.
A Boresnake is handy and light to take along with you, in a separate plastic bag.
If you're at an outdoor range of any kind, a pair of compact binoculars (or a monocular) comes in handy to check your groups in between times to go down.
Earplugs AND earmuffs always. You might just be shooting a .22, the guy in the next lane might be touching off .500 S&W out of a 2 inch barrel.
Buy eye protection in multiples and use it religiously. One is none, two is one and you're ready in case someone forgets theirs.
Since you started with a magazine fed auto, 3-5 mags minimum to start with. I like having enough to load at least one box at a time.
Get a sling, makes it a lot easier, even if you never plan to carry it afield.

Pricelessppp,

10-22 was my first gun back in 1980. Still have it. I'll bet a lot of people started with that same gun. It's amazing how fast 100 rounds disappears.

FYI - gun safety means doing things most people think are over the top. If you don't work in a place/atmosphere that puts safety first you may not know what you think you know. Ex: I just showed you it was empty, why did you open it up to check? Because that is the procedure.

With any .22 gun, you will be presented with a lot of ammo choices. Try a few different brands & velocities to see what works best in your gun. Be objective, and aware that 22's are notoriously dirty so cleaning is important after a days' shooting.

Congratulations. The 10/22 is a fine rifle with great potential for modification down the road. Lots of aftermarket parts available to tweak its performance, even though it should serve well out of the box. Enjoy!

Congratulations. It's hard to go very wrong with a 10/22. Mine was the 2nd or 3rd gun that I owned, and I can't imagine parting with it. Be safe and enjoy!

Welcome to the forum. This is the range o shoot at its 300 meters to the far berm. The 10/22 is a good choice as has been mentioned already. I've shot both indoor and outdoor ranges. If you happen to find an indoor range ask about smallbore competition. Most shooters are happy to help new competitors out.

Also you are never too old or experienced to learn. I'm sunday I learned a few things from a cmp competetor.

Good advice. Though I'm not looking to compete just plinking around.
