NRA: Chris Cox Resigns

Hurting the NRA is hurting all of us who want to preserve our RKBA, there can be no doubt about that.

IMHO you are falling into the trap stirred up by the gun controllers.

In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved. Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations.

You haven't been paying attention.

I would like to point out that the GOA has some of the same political ,if not worse issues as the NRA.

The only solution that Sharp Dog and others put forward is keep the money rolling in regardless of how WLP spends donated funds. This thread has dissolved into cheap political trash.

As long as they continue to do the good work they are doing, you are correct, I could care less about WLP.

Are there other actions we can do? We have to weigh the pro-2A activities of the NRA vs the misdeeds of the NRA leadership and decide if we are going to give them more money. What else can we do?

Honestly question, setting the money issues aside, are there other actions we as members can take to influence the NRA organization as a whole to effect changes in the leadership?

No, you have not been, I've been consistent on all of the various NRA-bashing and GOA-bashing threads.

My single goal is to preserve my RKBA. As long as the NRA or GOA work to do this I'm good with that.

Go read any of my other posts and you will see this to be the case. I could care less about your politics.

"Good work" like this

Or maybe you meant "Good work" like this?

My girlfriend is African American and I've made a lot of progress with her, to the point she has her own .22 Mk. II, and she helps me cast bullets. You think this is going to make progress with her and other AA's?

My single goal is to preserve my RKBA.

Hmm.

Now I do have this to say. I will and have admitted that the NRA has an edge “ name wise “. People and politicians know who they are off the bat. Not a whole lot of people know who’s the GOA and the like are. But does the NRA name still hold political pull name wise? Are people still consider them a legit group or just a joke now?

Did you see almost every Democrat candidate attack them on stage ? Did you see ANY OTHER 2A group attacked ?

@silisonsys4 you might want to go back and actually read the thread from the beginning just to get up to speed with the rest of us.

Lol, No. You should.
here is more "good work" from the NRA

My African American gf just loves this kind of stuff, let me tell you. I've made a lot of progress the last 2 years in increasing her involvement in 2A and shooting, and no thanks to crap like this from the NRA.

Lol, likewise.

You don't get it. If I give my kid $20 to go buy groceries and he comes back with a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk, and a stomach ache from the $15 worth of candy he ate on the way back home, he didn't do a "Good Job".

It looks like Wayne is the NRA. Wayne goes and the NRA ceases to exist the same day. It is OK for Wayne to do as he pleases. Anybody who criticizes Wayne is a rabid anti-gun person. Totally disregard what Wayne has done because of what the organization has done for the 2A. It's perfectly OK for the members to be powerless. Wayne knows what is best. Wayne rules!

Addendum: Nobody has given me an answer. What caused the membership and contributions to drop before Waynegate?

These kinds of questions are always difficult to answer with total certainty, but I suspect the following have been factors:

  • Sucking the pipeline dry. Lifetime memberships and “emergency help needed” messages rolled contributions forward in time... just borrowing from the future, really. May as well go take out a loan.
  • Alienation of pro-gun people with any kind of heterodoxy in their political views. By throwing in unequivocally with social conservatives in general, it became difficult or impossible to get anyone with mixed political views to send money.
  • Shifts in cultural politics in big areas of the country. Plenty of places where 10 years ago you might see a decent number of NRA roundels in windows now have few or none.
  • Old people dying. $20/year from a 25 year old is better than $300 from a retiree in terms of long term health. The NRA has combined right-wing social politics (skews old) with a certain amount of Fudd-ish stuff at the “club level.”

Their initial support of the final bump stock review and their indifference to the full on ban of them. Their support of red flag laws did it for some people. The fact that they in large part ignore the anti gun things Trump does and says.

Those things did it for myself and most people I know that have withheld support. Outside of the internet I don’t know one person that knows and cares about “Waynegate”

Thanks for the help. With the exception of the aging aspect, all these factors appear related to internal management decisions. In other circumstances this behavior would have been called "tribal behavior". No outsiders welcome.
