my water jug test will silicone caulk in a 40cal Hornady XTP hollow point expand well?

That's what this bullet is designed to do.

Yeah, I like the XTP in my 10mm and .357 woods loads because I actually want all that extra penetration.

Actually a .40 with XTPs would be a nice little woods load too

Four jugs of water is only roughly two jugs equivalent of critter. Does not seem to overly much IMHO. I have killed two deer with 40 cal 200gr XTP and two deer with 45cal 300gr XTP/MAG. And I have never had one fail to exit. I like the XTP though I am slowly switching over to Barnes or similar all copper bullets for much of my hunting.

S&W 610 pushing 40 cal 200gr XTP to 1250 fps. Two does both ~130lb about 30 seconds apart, first one at ~20 yards and the second at ~25 yards.

I wonder what hot glue would do. Less “grippy” than silicone but would fill the void and harden well, but nowhere near as hard as some other stuff. Just a thought.

the more soft it is the better creates a hydraulic pressure chamber
Right, but softer typically means grippy, and grippy can stop a gun with jams where a harder or different shaped nose would slip by under force of the moving slide. Gotta find a balance point between function in the gun and function outside of the gun.

but i only put a little in the cavity not out side the nose of the bullet look back at my video and see

This reminds me of the days I would test every JHP I could find against 6x6" of play-do wrapped in a trash bag to mitigate media loss (that first block would usually try to explode with 9mm JHP or greater).

I kept that same 50+ pounds of play-do in a 5 gallon bucket for years. I hung the project up when it started to mold. It's all the same, the stuff was so lead laden it was likely toxic at that point.

I got some pretty interesting results but overall, it was fun!
