My Navy son was assigned to ship duty in SD from Jax NAS so he picked me up in Missouri and we road tripped together to The Golden State.
I read all the time about California politics, politicians and gun policy for which I agree with very little. On the other hand, the people of San Diego are very friendly and kind - San Diego is a beautiful place.
I left SD with a different perspective - I still do not agree with the politics but I saw a great place to be - the irony did not escape me.

I visited my cousin out in San Diego 6 years ago. I wore my only hat I had packed with me. A NRA cap my Dad gave me. I also packed two t shirts I had got for free from Ruger not thinking it's a different culture out there. I had a different experience with the friendliness lol. Couple confrontations. I wasn't trying to make a statement or anything, but coming out from the Midwest, I just didn't think much of what I was wearing. My work boots and shorts combo got a ton of prissy stares too.

Beautiful part of the country though.

Many in the state of California are blind to the tyranny they are under, and of those most do not care being under said tyranny. And it is my sincere hope that they stay put.

Notice I said “many”, I know a good many that live there that don’t choose to leave for one reason or another.

But yes California has a lot of beauty that is for sure, but so do countless other states.

Our daughters in laws decided to sell and move out when he retired from the Navy.

With what they sold their house for there, they bought 2 nicer, and bigger, homes 37 miles outside of downtown ATL. And he also purchased 36 acres for future plans.

California is a very, very deeply divided state. Outside of the San Francisco Bay area and Greater Los Angeles, it's far more conservative than people realize.

Big cities are the problem in many states. Even Texas has Austin:(.

My wife was born and raised in San Diego (Chula Vista, actually) and her perspective of the area is slightly different. In fact, sometimes when she wants to “get my goat,” she says, “I only married you for a ticket out of California, you know.” Of course she married me 48 years ago last month, so it’s getting hard for me to feign hurt feelings when she tell me that anymore.

But just to make this a little gun related: 35-40 years ago when my wife and I used to drive down to San Diego to visit her relatives, we would plan the trip so that we would be there when there was IHMSA match out at El Cajon. And my wife would take her Ruger Super Silhouette .44 Mag so she could shoot in the match – much to the amazement of her mom, who had the worst gun phobia I’ve ever seen in a person.

Almost all of my wife’s San Diego relatives are gone now, so we don’t make it down there very often anymore. But even if my wife did have a bunch of relatives left in the San Diego area, from what I’ve heard and read about Californians and guns, I don’t think we would be driving down there. Flying if we had to, but not driving.
