Dream 1911, Glockettes need not reply

All I did to my -A1 MilSpec was stone the electro-pencil serial number smooth on the under side of the slide, upped the recoil spring to a Wolff 18.5# for ball ammo, and greased the rails. (and swapped in Trigger Happy nylon grips for the crossed cannon cocobolo's).

Runs like a clock.

Prior to this current "mil-spec" Defender, the last couple "A1 Mil-Spec's" I bought like yours, had that same issue. Someone got to grinding that serial number into the disconnector track on the underside of the slide, and the gun felt like someone poured sand into the action when you cycled the slide. Took a LOT of stoning to get that smothed out.

The one I just got still has the same electro penciling, but it was very lightly done, and not nearly as noticeable. I still will probably touch it up though.

Springfield still couldnt figure out the correct frame dimentions either. These are the last two I bought, and they are in the same serial number range, and you can see the differences in the frames. One (on the left) is pretty close to spec, the other, way off. The dust cover and the radius at the front of the grip are the two major differences.

I swapped out the somewhat cheezy cannon grips as well, for a set of S&A full checkered mahogany's.

Just curioius here, but your gun appears to have the stainless bushing, or is that just the light?

This Defender I got, has a SS barrel and bushing, and is TIGHT. I thought I was going to have to go find a bushing wrench to get it appart.

Yeah because putting "Glockettes need not reply" in the title isn't Glock hate.
I think it's worth mentioning though that there was nothing being stirred in this thread until you started to stir it.

Geeska Gooska Glockateers (borrowed from the Mickey Mouse club for those of you to young to know that)
Borrowed because Mickey Mouse seems appropriate when discussing Glocks at least to my way of thinking.
Oohh, ouch that's gonna stir the pot. Sorry couldn't resist .
Fellow on another forum where I posted the same question stated that he would use the money for ammo to improve his abilities.
To which I replied that at my age it would be a waste of money, heck I'm just happy to still be able to see the target at 25 yards.:D

I did say I'd get a Dan Wesson

Dan Wesson's, in my opinion, are the best bang for the buck within my modest budget. Of my 5 1911's there is 1 Colt Gold Cup purchased in the mid 70's and still one of the most accurate, it will go to the grave with me, 2 Kimber's and 2 Dan Wesson's.
The DW Valor Bobtail in 45ACP is my personal self defense and carry gun. Some will say it's a bit heavy but most of us he-men don't notice :neener:( a good holster and belt helps, carry mine in a Milt Sparks Summer Special.) While not the most accurate with the 4-1/4" barrel it shoots to minute of bad guy and has been functionally very reliable. The other is relatively new to me and my first 38 Super, really love this gun but that may be because it's feeding my caliber junkie addiction. Sure makes my 9mm's into puny bellums. Same thing happened when I got a 10mm sold all my 40 short&weaks.:p

Don't forget the Adirondack M7/M9:

I like the old M3's myself. :)

This one is an old Cathey Enterprises.

El Paso makes some nice versions too. I have a number of them for a bunch of different guns. Great, handy, grab and go holsters.

Nice.

A sloppy coat(or two) of Sno-Seal, followed by a day in a bag on a hot dashboard, will do wonders for that old leather.

Mine started out as a dog's chew.

:D

I have two Wilsons and sold my Springfield Pro a while ago. My ACW is absolutely the most accurate handgun I’ve ever shot. Nothing comes close. Yours is pretty.

Currently waiting on Rob to drop more calibers.(38Super). there will definitely be more ACW's in my future.

Thats ones had a coat or two of Sno Seal (I quit using it for my boots when Gortex came along) over the years too. And youre right, its about due for another as I look at it. :)

As far as dog chews, thats where you have to worry about Glocks around here. We have a couple of Rotties, and that would be about a 5 minute or less job. :D

They are both pretty much past that stage now though, but, if Id been eating fried chicken or ribs, and had been handling one of my Glocks without washing my hands, and put it down, all bets would be off! :p

Love those holsters, in the winter months I carry mine in a Galco Miami Classic but those look perfect for woods carry.

They are handy.

El Paso will make you one for pretty much anything. They are a bit salty (about $150) compared to the repros you usually see though.

I have a number of them for various revolvers and autos. Well worth the money if you can swing it.

If money wasn’t an issue I would buy the Ruger 1911 stainless with rosewood grips in 9mm. 6 weeks post surgery it’s pretty much all I can handle.

My carry 1911 fits nicely in a Vedder light tuck (yes I know, a 1911 in plastic and not leather, blasphemy!). Spare mag in a kytex belt pouch and the other in my left pocket.

i bought this 1911 colt .45 acp made in 1948, it does have stains on the finish from being left in a holster about 25 years, but the bore and inside parts are in ex condition. it was full of dried grease and required a good cleaning. I fired two magizines of GI hardball at a soda can at 20 yards killing it many times over. as I only paid half of what cmp wants for their retuned 1911,s, I,m pretty happy.

Nice shooter there eastbank. Pretty hard to beat an original Colt with honest wear.

Lotto money I'm gonna get one of each. My hard earned dollars went to a Les Baer always been a fan since he shares my other addiction (fast Fords) and builds one heck of a nice gun.

I am another that is supporting a family on one income. I tend to buy about one gun a year but they are often inexpensive. The one 1911 I currently have is a Ruger SR 1911. I like it a lot but if I found myself suddenly more prosperous I would probably be looking hard at Dan Wesson. I have no experience with them but everything I have ever read about them was positive & yes I like how they look. Besides I have an old Monson Mass Dan Wesson model 15-2 revolver. It would be nice to have a Dan Wesson 1911 to go with it even if it is actually a different company now.

Of the 1911's I've had, I liked the Dan Wessons the best.

That said, my favorite .45 of all time is Glock 21 Gen4.

Dan Wesson Valor Bobtail in 10mm. I'm pricing them right now but keep getting cold feet whenever I see that $2k pricetag. I like nice firearms but I'm not a fan paying MSRP for them.

A Volkmann Precision custom 5 inch with a Black cerakoted slide and case hardened frame. I prefer the short trigger and trigger stop with a flat MSH. I would like it to be railed for a light or laser.

Id want it in 10mm, with a 40 barrel and springs to switch it out. Id like Alumagrips with a Spartan helmet laser etched. Id like a v notch rear sight with a thin gold bead topped front sight, with lines drawn to demark hold over for longer range shots.
