What sidearms do the LEOs in your area carry.

I haven't researched to see what every branch in the state carries but I'm always checking out every LEO I see just out of curiosity.

So far it's been mostly Glocks with a few M&Ps. No way to tell caliber by just the grip.

I’m not a cop but I pay attention when I see one and what they carry. I mostly see Glocks it the communities around San Antonio and Austin, but I know SA PD went to S&W a few years ago. I do see some me of those models around from time to time.

I rarely (but have) seen a Sig 226/229 variant but last couple I saw were a while ago on constables (not really sure what their roles are other than serving subpoenas).
If memory serves, highway patrol in Texas carries the P226 in .357 Sig.

All I've seen are Glocks, G21s for the state, G22s for the locals. Issue ammo is, or was, last time I was on the range at the same time, the Remington Golden Saber.

My department has over 3000 sworn officers. When transporting inmates we carry Glock 23's in 40 S&W

Most agencies in New York carry Glocks...issue is .45 ACP but you will see all calibers because if you were previously qualified on something you can continue to carry it on duty.

Come to think of it, I have never seen a State cop, whether they be NYSP, DEC, NYS Forest Rangers, University Police, or whoever else, NOT carrying a Glock. They are good tools.

My father asked a State Trooper once, and he said, "We all have Glocks, but my CZ shoots better, and I wish they'd let me use it on duty."

Agencies in my area are mostly Glock/M&P/XD, but you will also see other makes and models. Two officers I know run revolvers and speedloaders. 1911s are also in vogue with agencies that make you buy your own.

I had to provide my own service weapon and gear. We were given an allowance at the end of the year to cover some of the money spent on uniforms and gear.
Glock model 23 .40 cal
Lanesboro Police Dept.
When I started to do DOT inspections on commercial vehicles I would carry my Colt Cobat Commander. .45 cal.

Last I heard, the Florida Highway Patrol issued a Glock in .357 SiG ...
That could be, but I think you may be confusing the G37 with .357 SIG.

The FHP were one of the few LE agencies that issued the .45 GAP round and used the G37 and G39. They may have switched to a Glock in .357 SIG, but if they had changed from the .45 GAP, I would have guessed a switch to 9mm.

I don’t see many troopers so I Googled it. Looks like they are moving to the Sig 320

They've always been Sig fans... I was pulled over recently and an officer not quite middle age but definitely not mid 20s either came up to my Jeep and I noticed he was carrying some sort of stainless Smith and Wesson I want to say a 66 but can't verify. Now that was extremely cool to see.

Let’s keep this to what is known. This post is not to see what was or could be. It’s to see what is carried by LEOs today.
Here is a simple way to find out what your local LEO carries. Just give them a call and ask.:)

This has been some time ago, maybe 5 years, but a buddy of mine was working for the county and all the sheriff's department carried Glock 37. Yes, 37s. His duty pistol was the on GAP I've ever seen in the wild. I'm not sure what they carry these days. Might still be the 37, but I could see them rotating them out as the winds of 9mm have blown.

He currently works for the city PD. I haven't had time to ask him what they carry. I'm thinking it's a Glock of some flavor. Not sure if it's a 9mm or .40, but looks to be full size.

Every uniformed officer I've seen for the last few years has carried a Glock.

Dave

Dallas PD for a long time allowed an officer the choice of and SIG P226 in 9mm.

That's still the primary issue now, but officers can put out their own cash for a Sig 225, 228 or 229 or a Glock 17 or 19

I am not around any state or SO guys but it appears the city guys in the two towns that I see one in now and then and are carrying Glocks. I don't really pay much attention to be honest. I'm a 1911 type of guy and have little interest in plastic fantastics although I do own two of which aren't Glocks. I might get interested if I ran into one with a 1911, a single action, or even double action revolver hanging on his hip though. I know, it's not happening.

Glock, Glock, Glock, Glock. The New York State Police use G21 (.45 ACP). I don't know about the town police, but I'm guessing they've got .40 or 9mm. I know the sheriff's deputy in the pistol permit bureau in my county carries a Glock subcompact on his belt, but I've never asked the caliber.

I do not pay any attention to what they carry any more than I do the brand of shoes they wear. That said, I do know a few that when asked, said what ever brand they are issued which at the present time is Glocks. One told me that they have a option to pay a small out of pocket expense and get the M&P (which they would be able to own). I did talk to a State trooper that carried a Sig 327.I have read that some departments will, after the Officer has had experience, provide a list of approved other firearms. Ex. Sig, etc. (which would IMO be the ideal for officers to have the ability to choose rather than just accept a mandatory bid issued firearm.)

Mostly Glocks, 9mms and .40s&w. NY state pays for half if they go with them on the county and local level. The discount is even greater for the Smokies, IIRC. Supposedly it was to "ensure any officer would be familiar with any other officer's sidearm", but really it was that Glock's lobbiests made the right "campaign contributions". They even tried incentivising the .45 GAP when it was introduced, but even with the discounts it never caught on.

CT Staties pack SIG P220's with up to 4 extra 10-round mags. Storrs (Mansfield) has a resident state trooper office, so they're the same, but not sure about the UConn campus police there. Our previous town (Vernon) issued G21's when we lived there; according to my Explorer son they still do.
