Does anyone have first hand experience with the TISAS Browning HP clone?

Now that FN no longer makes the HP, and FEG and FM stopped making theirs years ago, TISAS is the only game in town.

What's their quality vis a vis FN, FEG and FM?

If they're not a good bargain in terms of price vs quality, the only thing I can think of that's close would be a CZ75 made in or converted to single action.

If it's anything like the 1911A2 I got from them, it will be a solid and reliable shooter. While I don't mind the Parkerized finish the 1911 came with, I'd hope the HP would be blued, though.

Finish wouldn't be an issue for me as long as it's properly done.

Thanks.

i have a stainless version one. very tight fitting. no play. shot well. no issues. finish is decent for what it is, edges and such a bit sharp and pointier than a browning or fn, yep i own a couple of those also. id put it a bit better than the fegs i own in fit and finish. had some sort of issues when first released on broken firing pin plate retainer and some other sort of issue, cant remember now but heard they have all been fixed, mine seems fine and ive put many rounds through it.

Since they discontinued the CZ75B SA, I'm leaning in that direction.

I have one. Good pistol shoots great no issues yet. I changed springs to lighten trigger and took out mag disconnect helps lot. I just put on new grips makes it looker sharper and lot better handhold for my hands. Also added baseplate to mags, but did all these things to my Browning HiPower as well. Like to tinker. Gun is a keeper so far not quite 1,000 rounds but getting closer so far so good. Tight pistol well made seems. Mine is SS I would buy another. Is it as good as Browning FN no. I think for price difference it is a good pistol and a good shooter don’t think you can go wrong my take

I have a stainless Tisas BR9SS. It is a good gun once I replaced all of the internals. You might want to check out BHSS' video reviews of this pistol and their 5K round torture test.

yeah bhss testing is where i saw the issues on the firing pin retainer plate. it was the extractor too, i was thinking i read resolved but appears not. i expect tisas will correct these flaws eventually. doubt they have been yet but i didnt ask tisas to see. i just shoot couple hundred rounds at a time, and havent had the issues....yet. im not shooting non stop though. just a couple mecgar mags of 15 at a time. few breaks here and there to get out of the sun. so i expect thats why.

Was it a bad gun before you replaced the internal parts or did you do that out of an abundance of caution?

They look and feel decent, but they have extractor issues. They also have firing pin issues. You can replace the internals and make them decent. BH Spring solutions sells an optimization kit, but by the time you spend this much on it, you minus well spend a few more dollars and buy a real Hi Power.

They do have a cheaper reliability upgrade kit, but it's still around $75.

My experience with Tisas products hasn't been all that impressive and for the price, I'd pass. Not to mention, by the time you upgrade the gun enough to be decent, you have almost as much into it as a real Hi Power costs, only you still have a clone with a low resale value.

I wouldn’t replace anything unless having issues. I replaced some springs on Browning and Tisas to get better triggers not because I had to. I use BHSS stuff it is good. I think they are good guns C&S uses them for builds so they think overall pistol is pretty decent just needs refining like most production guns unless DW they are good out of box.

I have a Tisas Regent BR9 in blue. I recently acquired one so it only has a couple of hundred rounds thru it. The fit and finish is excellent, much tighter fit than any of the Browning's I own, mostly MKIIIs including a 40 S&W. The accuracy has been on par and so far reliable. I bought it so I can use it for training and carry my "proven" lower round count BHPs. I would like to get a SS one and the prices keep coming down, they can be currently had for 500 bucks new (SS), blue can be had cheaper (low 400s).

These haven't been out long enough, maybe 18-24 months to get enough feed back on them, jury is still out. I would take the BHSS opinions with a grain of salt, if its not broken don't replace anything except like grips or the smallish safety (crap original type). The Tisas BR9 has had some teething problems but I am very hopeful for these especially since Browning/FN stopped making them.

Here is an excerpt from an American Rifleman evaluation from Bill Laughridge from Cylinder & Slide:

"We have done a complete Rockwell hardness check on all of the critical areas of the slide, frame, and internal parts. The RC hardness is greater than the Browning Hi Power was in the slide locking lugs, slide breech face, and the barrel cam in the frame. The barrel chamber and rifling are very clean. The slide to frame fit is better than most of the Browning Hi Powers but still has some play."

Abundance of caution. I did it because I could, and because I wanted to. However, there have been enough reports of cracked firing pin plates and extractor problems that I am happy that I did what I did. I ended up with a pistol in which I have extreme confidence.
