If the census asked:

- Do you own firearms? How many _____________

Would you answer?

Personally, I would not. If that was only on the long form, I would do the short form.

Two sides to this; yes, answering could provide info for future confiscation. But, not answering is the reason why polls on how many gun owners there are, is so skewed. People are afraid to answer truthfully, and that shows gun owners to be more of a minority than they are, allowing for politicians to see them as less of a base, and further trample their rights.

I would only list the items that are on the NFA record and a handgun since I have a CCW permit. If I left it blank they would know I'm lying.

Unlike my citizenship, which the state does have a valid interest in knowing about, my armament (or lack) is not something the state has a valid interest in knowing.

Now, if the law (still) required all citizens to own a gun, and validated ownership via census, I could probably live with that.

Moot point. This is not in any way apropos to what the census is supposed to do. If a citizenship question was ruled to be outside the scope of the census, a gun question certainly would be.

I would be truthful.

Yes

One

It is true that I own one firearm, it is also true that I own two firearms, it is also true . . .

If they come and take my FN49 I will consider it no great loss.

The Second Amendment does include that statement about a militia, so it might be argued that knowing how many privately owned guns there are in the country affects national security. I don’t believe it, just saying some politician could make that argument as justification for the question.

I like Hasaf’s response; that is how I would answer.

No. Especially in the current political climate. But as some posters above said the question really ought not ever be on the census as it isn't pertinent to the purpose of the census.

Check with my Doctor.....think I answered it on his questionnaire.....of course the Hippa Laws preclude me from disclosing medical data, so I guess that information isn't available.
