Cabelas Prices

Cabelas has gone down the tubes since bought out by Bass Pro. Used to be my favorite store for everything but now I can go anywhere to get what their selling. Last week I visited their Hammond Indiana store they had two used Dan Wesson Guardian 38 supers in the gun library, a pistol I'm interested in, wanted $1400 bucks for them. MSRP for a new one is $1550 and I can get one on GunBroker for $1200.
Bass Pro must have adapted the WC Fields philosophy of "Never give a sucker an even break and never smarten up a chump". :cuss:

The gun library is sort of interesting. I gravitate to the Colt MK IV Series 70 guns. I sort of collect them. They had one in the Avon, Ohio store at $1700 and I found a real nice clean looking one in a PA store. So I called the PA store and asked them to ship the gun to the Avon store. No problem so they sent it and Avon called me. I went up, looked at the gun and bought it and the gun was as clean if not cleaner than the gun originally in the Avon store with a $300 higher price tag.

I can only assume they mark the gun a point (percentage) over what they bought it for. Also, when you ask to have a gun library gun moved you are not saying you will buy it. They are happy to move them.

No robbery at all - did you buy a gun at their prices? If not, you didn't get robbed. If you did, then you agreed that the price they charged was fair, so again, no robbery. Just because YOU do not like the pricing model now in play from their parent company BASS Pro doesn't mean a lot of folks agree with you. Both stores sell a LOT of guns

True to all, however; 5% off across the board, not just loss leaders, and not advertised as "special or sale" would sell more and change their image to the shooting sports community.

They have become a clothing store that also sells guns now. Johnny Morris inherited several BILLION dollars of Cabela's debt. Cabela's was better run before the brothers sold out and went public to build those "lodges".

I was in the Ft. Worth Cabela’s last week to get some powder. They had a good selection and their prices were in the $22.95 - $24.95 range for 1# cans of Hodgdon and Alliant powders. Which is in line with other retailers in my area. And I didn’t have to pay shipping or hazmat charges. I had to pay sales tax but i expect that and some online retailers are now collecting sales tax from everyone in addition to the other charges. So in short, I didn’t find much to complain about.

My suggestion would be to vote with your wallet. If you don’t wanna pay their prices, shop somewhere else. They will eventually get the message.

Just my opinion and it’s worth exactly what it costs!

Recently just for fun, I asked the person in the Gun Library if they were interested in a Remington Nylon 66 1976 Bi-Centenial NIB. They didn't have a Blue Book of Gun Values, so they looked at Gun Broker for a comparable Nylon( which they could not find). They came up with 1/3 of the value. Then I was told that they were dealing on a sellers gun collection, and to come back later. I guess it didn't help that I laughed at him. LATER will never come. I buy my reloading supplies at my Gun Club, and anything else at a local Gun Shop in town and save the 45 mile 1 way drive to Cabela's. I guess that it is the old Gander Mountain down the drain management outlook.

I've bought Unique and Bullseye at Cabela's in the past year ... powder prices and they were back down to reasonable....weird. ... Looks like they got the message on the prices and came back down.

The acquisition of Cabela's by Brass Pro has now been completed. They are now, effectively, one and the same entity. Bass Pro, who raised its prices for powders to what I regarded as unreasonable levels during the shortage is now having to "price down" a declining demand curve and this is being reflected at both stores.

Don't have a Cabelas in my home areas but I was on vacation this week and thought I would stop in and take a look. First look was at primers and powders. Lets just say one quick look was enough. Their prices were higher than my own LGS. Looked at several pistol prices and said OK , I'm out here! The store was nicely laid out and not a bad inventory but with those high prices. I can foresee them going the way of Gander Mountain! Wont be going back!

I'm assuming you were at the store in Hammond. I stopped in there about a week ago because I was in the area.
Same as you, primers, powder, bullets all way over priced but the final straw was when I visited the gun library. Won't be going back.
