I recently had surgery that required incisions in the area where I wear a belt. Wearing a snug belt for little while isn't going to be an option. I've never worn suspenders but am considering them as a possible option for concealed carry. I have read good reviews on Perry suspenders. Advice would be appreciated.

I wear them for open carrying a 44 magnum. (4 lb gun) I prefer the x-back type suspenders. They do a good job of keeping my pants up with all that weight on the belt. However, they tend to stretch and wear out quickly.

But yeah, if I were in your shoes, I would totally wear my gun as normal on a loose belt and keep it all up with some form of suspenders.

Sportsman's Warehouse suspenders, 2" wide X back....with or without belt for IWB, loose waist, outside, untucked over / outer shirt: done for years.

+on sturdy gun belt worn loose plus suspenders. On the suspenders, get one that attaches to your pants or with loops for the belt. The type that slips under the belt didn't work well for me.

I use the Perry type on occasion at work, especially as the summer wears on and my pants tend to get bigger as I drop the layoff winter weight. They work fine and even under heavy exertion. The clip on type kept popping off for me.

The only thing you need to watch, is where/how you normally carry your gun, that the suspenders dont interfere. I found that when I used to carry IWB at about 4:30, I would catch the suspenders with my hand on the way to the gun while clearing my shirt in practice. AIWB is better, as the attachment point is behind the gun. But you still need to watch that you get it far enough back and can still clear the gun without issues.

Not Perry. Welch. Don't get the clip-ons, but either rivet or sew buttons. X-back and Y back attach to the same points because the Y backs have a leather spreader at the bottom. Y back are better. You don't need a belt. Paddle holster OWB and a cover garment or put the 1911 in a holster in your front pocket with an untucked shirt. The latter option works well with overalls too. You don't have to have the overalls-look either. Just put a shirt over the overalls and they just look like jeans or dungarees that don't fall down.

I had total Hip replacement on April 15th. I wear a special holster made for me by Jim Nelson. It has special neoprene padded back. I use a Sparks belt loose with Duluth suspenders. The combination works.

For easy on and off, I like the Perry's. If you have the time and energy, button on suspenders are really good- they aren't going anywhere. For this type, I prefer to sew on regular heavy duty plastic buttons as opposed to the brass hammer on ones- I feel those brass ones stick out too much.
