45-70 load with imr3031

There is such a wide range of loads for 45-70, I would contact Henry and ask the about the relative strength of their brass framed rifle. I know it is stronger than a Trapdoor but probably not as strong as a modern Marlin 1895 or Winchester/Browning 1886.
With the range of loads listed for 3031, you should be safe with charges in the mid 30's. You should not go lower than the listed minimum for the trapdoor loads and you might not get clean burns there. The Trailboss and 2400 suggestions were good.

Thanks for all the input guys there just seems to be so many choices
I did find out that my hard cast bullets
Are 24bn hope that's not going to be
Issue with my loads also I did pickup some trail boss Saturday since it's cheap compared to 3031 the guy at reload shop
Suggest I go with 11-12grains of trail boss
With the 350 grain cast any thoughts from here??
He also said that my loads the 32 grains of 3031 could be issue with empty space in case ,I was planning on shooting some Monday after work weather permitting
With my 3031 loads should I be concerned?
Thanks again

With that small of a powder charge in that big case, there might be an issue with consistent ignition of the powder. If you've already loaded them, the simplest thing to do is to 'muzzle up' the rifle after you chamber the round... this sets the powder charge against the primer. I do that with my 15grn Unique loads (but have since discontinued loading Unique in the .45-70.) Some people will recommend a filler... a small tuft of Dacron (pillow filling.) The fluffy Dacron keeps the charge against the primer without having to muzzle up every shot. Beware... just a tiny tuft, you don't have to pack the case with it. NEVER, EVER use anything else... cardboard wads or disks, any sort of rigid filler. I think I have heard of others using Cream o' Wheat cereal... but that sounds messy.

I reloaded some 45-70 with 350gr.lead hp.Used imr3031 with 36.0 gr. Shooting a h&r buffalo classic.

I didn't put the view attachment link up.I'm not using the lead cast bullets anymore for hunting. They ain't doing a good job on the deer.I've started using hornady.
Your charge of 36.0gr 3031 is well below the starting charge weight for a Trapdoor load which might be the reason for its ineffectiveness. Every source I checked gave the starting charge as at least 10-12gr higher. Your charge would be the starting charge for a 405gr cast bullet.

Just an observation.

update
loaded 100 rounds using trailboss 14.5 grains with 350 grain oregon trail hard cast shoots great no leading at all and decent grouping
powder seems to burn cleaner then the imr 3031 that i used 1st .trail boss is now my favorite you can shoot all day with no shoulder pain
thanks for all who gave some input

I started with Reloader 7 under 350 gr. Hornady Interlock and was so impressed that I didn’t go any further with any other powder.
