Charter Arms Boomer 44 Special

I have one also. I haven’t got to shoot it yet but if it’s anything like my bulldog it may replace my j-frames for pocket carry.

Is there a rational reason for having no sights?
I get the whole point shooting thing but it just looks weird without a front sight.
Makes the gun look very Saturday night special ish.

The purpose of having no front sight is to help eliminate the chance of hang ups ... Alot like the Fitz Special.. For pocket carry ..
Its not a target pistole' .. Its a upclose anti-mugger pistole...

I like the all business look of the Boomer. Chopped down and ready to throw heavy lead at close distances.

I've got a Pach compact grip I had on my Pitbull. Might need to get a Boomer for it to go on.

Hmmmm.

Charter Arms is offering a $25.00 Rebate and a T-shirt or a Hat ..
Don't waste that grip !!!! ;-)

Well doggone. Just made a nice cash sale today that would more than cover the cost of a Boomer and box of .44.

Lets she if better judgement wins out in the morning or if I bring home another hand cannon in a few days.

I figured that with the shrouded hammer. Always liked those revolvers, tons of power in a small package. I tell customers that a purely defensive firearm is like only one other thing I can think of and that's a fire extinguisher. Something you buy and hope you never need to use it. May you never need yours.

Ive gotta go right by my LGS tomorrow.
Part of me says that I don't need another up close gun in an "obsolete" caliber. Part of me says, "....yeah, but what more could you ask for when you want to pack more than a .380 without going to a belt gun?"

Purpose-driven, a bit so ugly it's cute, and a thunderous roar. You could certainly do worse than 5 rounds of .44 special.

Now part of me wants to look at a bulldog in .45 colt as well.

A couple of years ago I was in one of my favorite Pawn/Gun shops a saw a poor abused CA .44, had the barrel cut back, magna ported had been ceracoated or something to look like stainless and had a shotgun bead from sight. I haggled it down to sub $200 and took it home, next stop my Gunsmith who isn't afraid of doing slightly crazy stuff either, in the process of putting a new front sight he learned that the finish wasn't stainless, called me and explained and said he was shooting some Armor Black Ceracoat if I didn't mind. This is the end result and yes its ugly, shoots great with Gold Dot 180's and is load...I call it "little big mouth".

With Speer Shot shells its a potent anti-venomous snake weapon and with 180 gr HP's I sure as heck wouldn't want to catch a cylinder full from it.

My front sight never snagged on presentation, but that hammer hook sure got wrapped around things. So I installed a factory hammer without the spur. I don't carry this anymore, but it would work if needed.

You think a 44 Special is a wimp round, until you fire it in a Charter Arms Bulldog!

Funny story, I was going to the gun range with some friends and they wanted to shoot my Anaconda. I bought some .44 Special loads to acquaint them with the gun a bit less punishingly. Didn't notice they were Cowboy Action Loads. Seemed a bit smokier than the usual smokeless powder. When I got home cleaning that beast was a lot more trouble than I was used to.

I have one like this. Not sure how the smooth ramp Front sight is gonna snag on anything.

I want to believe.
I like 44 Special. Even bought a new CA SS snub once,
Brought it home the cylinder thumb latch sliced my finger. One cylinder was messed up and would not chamber a round.
Brought it back to the LGS , returned to factory. Got my money back (friends with the owner) Other than that I liked it,:)

Still want one.:)

Here is my CA Bulldog. I bought it used five years ago (or so) and it's given me no problems at all. It's my favorite coat pocket gun for cold weather. Carrying a large-caliber revolver like that always gives me the warm fuzzies. I liked it so much that I eventually purchased CA revolvers in 32 magnum, 45acp, and 22lr. I like them all.

I once bought a older Charter 38spl snubbie at a gunshow ... It was disassembled... and was in a shoebox ..the owner told me he took it apart and couldn't get it back together... I gave it a quick look see ... It seemed all the parts were there ... I made him a ridiculous lowball offer .. He took it ..
So I got it .... I called Charter explained my situation.. They told me , being it was so old , they had to charge me $35.00 flat fee and I had to pay for parts . I packed it up , wrote a check for $35.00 ... Sent it in ... In a couple of weeks I received it back .. All togather... Tight as a drum ... Carried it for years .... Traded it for something else ...
Newer revovlers have a lifetime warrenty... Great CS ...
