Like to see some pet loads 16 in. 1:9 ROT barrel. I can't seem to get the accuraticy
I want from factory ammo !!

LC brass
CCI 450 primer
24.2 G AA2230
Midsouth .224 55 gr VNX premium HPFB
2.25 OAL

gets ~3k fps from my 16 in. 1:9 twist Bushmaster barrel. Does well in 1:12, 1:8 also. Does well in 1:7, but about 1 in ten flies apart due to the fast twist. It has a thin jacket.

If you don't mind weighing your charges, 25.5 of H4895 and a 55sp works well. You may need to go up or down a tenth depending on your brass.
If you take a trip to your reloading store with a reloading manual and see what they have for prices on each brand of powder.
I've seen as big as 15 dollars a pound difference. There are so many powders that work well in 223 that you will get varied responses.

For range ammo:
LC brass
CCI #41 or 450 primer
25.0gr H335
55gr .224 FMJ bullet

For accurate target/hunting ammo:
Federal brass
CCI 450 primer
25.0gr Varget
55gr Sierra GameKing HPBT #1390

62 gr Hornady HPBT (from Mid-South Shooters Supply)
24.5 gr Ramshot TAC
CCI-450 or Remington 7 1/2
Affordable, Accurate and Effective in 5 different AR's twisted 1 in 9", 1 in 8" and 1 in 7".

I’m so glad to see several folks using H335. Its nice to know I’m not alone.
As listed above, by several folks 25 grain seems to work as a good base load.

Same! I just loaded my first 223 loads ever using H335. 23gr-25gr at 2.250”

Will try shorting OAL after initial testing

I don't think I've ever used anything other than H335 in 25 years. I don't know if it's the 'best' powder, but it works fine for generic ammos, and would probably produce good results when tuned for an accuracy load with something like a 69grn SMK, etc, which I'm going to try once I get through load development for my .45-70.

I've been looking for Accurate, Western products the LGS around this aera doesn't
carry them, I can get Allaint,Win,Hodgdon, Imr.

24.1 gr Varget
55 gr fmj
WSR primers

Seems to be a consistent round for a day at the range. We use it in several different AR frames, Bushmaster 16” carbine, Sig 16” carbine, Bushmaster 20” rifle. Everybody seems to think Varget is expensive for plinking but, at only 24.1 gr you get nearly 300 rounds from a 1 pound jug. The cost is worth it to me for the year round consistent performance.

The biggest accuracy improvement with my AR was when I replaced the stock trigger. Then I could start telling a difference with my loads. Some of the best accuracy I have gotten is with 55sp bullets. I’ve had good luck with 8208xbr powder. No crimp.

Does that 250gr stick out the end of the barrel?

Not quite, but it pops a soda bottle much better than a fifty five grain!:D

We know what Keyfer means, just having fun.:)

To that,

Federal brass
50 grn V-Max
2.255 Coal
23.5 grns TAC
CCI 400
2600Fps 16 inch 1/7

Lapua brass - 1.755 .016 short, Annealed
75 grn Hornady BTHP
1.916 CBTO no crimp
25.82 grns CFE 223
CCI 450
3100 fps 30 inch 1/7
