I went out to the range yesterday. There was a young couple there who had a heavy barrel bolt action and a semi auto pistol. He was trying to sight in a new optic, she was trying to hit a 10 in. Circle at 7 yds with pistol. I set up my targets out to 300 yds and rang steel first at 100.

We got talking and he was using a thermal optic and hitting dirt in front of the target. I offered assistance by loaning tools for him to pull bolt and bore sight first. Then offered to let the shoot my S+w 9mm. They both liked my 9mm and asked if they ever fired an AR 15.

The young lady had never fired opens on a rifle before so a little instructions on sight picture and safety controls she was punching holes in my 100 yd paper target. I then had her shoot my m11 in 223.

Before they left he was asking me if he could build an AR for 1k and that he is getting her a 9mm pistol because she shot much better than his 40 s+w sig.

Had you not been there it is quite likely that they both would have not had a good time and perhaps given up on shooting. Now that they are more into it they'll be supporters of R2KBA. Good job!

Reading is apparently fundamental because all I “read” was.

“Heavy barrel bolt action semi automatic pistol”. And was like “saywhatnow?”

All I could think was double barreled pump shotgun. :)

Took me a couple reads to digest properly. Good on you for helping out.

That is not enabling, that is being an ambassador for the sport. Thanks.

I agree, you probably successfully recruited a couple of new shooters into the sport. And turned a so so day at the range into a great day at the range, for them. And it doesn't hurt anything if she is pretty! :)

It seems to me that the young couple were already "gun people" -- perhaps not as much as members of this site, but, still, much more than the average public. What would really count would be getting people to the range who would not otherwise be there at all. Still, you did good.

For me, one of the best parts of being expert in any study, especially that of the topic of weapons, is teaching others what you know.
You give them the benefit of seasoned insight that would've taken them much longer themselves to know about. Plus you taught them to be better at self-defense and weapon selection. Good job.

If you mean "enabler" in the context of helping someone derive pleasure from something responsibly...then YES...you are an enabler. You've helped a couple who were struggling with a sport and showed them how to turn it into a pleasureful experience. The next time the words "range trip" comes up...they'll both be on it like a hound dog who's been offered a car ride. Cudos to you for keeping the sport burning in others!

While being much more of "gun people" than the average person walking around nowadays, without the OP's help they may have gotten too frustrated at doing poorly that they might have given up the whole thing, sold their guns at a loss and been turned away from shooting altogether.
Rather like me the first time I played golf and shot just over 100. On a nine hole course. Took up bowling instead. Much easier to shoot the pins down, a challenge with a six shooter to get a strike. Of course the pin boy was quite surprised at my methods, but that's another story.

Shame on you. How are we ever supposed to win the war against guns with people like you? Absolutely disgusting. Keep up the good work!!!!

One of the early episodes of Marvel Agents Of Shield had a guy on horseback approach one of the agents and pull a double barrel shotgun on him. Another agent comes in from off camera and disarms the gun, once again going off camera. You hear the sound of a pump shotgun being racked and the camera shifts to the second agent holding the double barrel shotgun on the horseback rider. I wish they'd pay someone to check that sort of thing. Right up there with the sound of a person cocking a Glock.
