@Doublehelix @Old Dog

You gents own Legion guns. Should I see wear like this on the slide? Looks like the strong mag springs were pushing the slide stop up into the slide. Not real concern about looks, especially there, and also since it’s a stainless slide, but it seems excessive.

Just wondering if I should be wondering.

I am using Lucas gun grease AND Hoppes oil on the rails.

Yeah, totally normal with the Legion finish. It sorta freaked me out to at first with my P226 SAO, but it is only in a few places, and the wear stops pretty quickly.

Sometimes when you wipe it down, it goes away! (Seriously!)

Concur with Doublehelix. Doesn't seem excessive.

Typically a wear spot on SIG pistol slides in that area, but that should be about all you'll end up with there. Looking at my 938 Extreme (round count around 800) slide from the same view, I have similar wear but not as large a spot on the right side as yours.
(Dirty pistol, just got home from the range)

P-229 Legion (needs a little dusting, daily carry pistol) with about 2K rounds through it …

Ok, well I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

This is definitely wear though. It's not going to wipe off. The small spot of wear on the inside actually looks chipped.

Well, we've all seen reports from Legion owners who ended up with pistols that displayed widely varying issues with the finish. Both my Legions don't seem to have much of a problem with this, but my feeling about SIG pistols is that if it's just finish wear and not galling, it's simply cosmetic and doesn't affect function (although I do get annoyed if I buy expensive guns that develop visual blemishes with only normal use). I have a couple old 226s and 228s with pretty much bare metal on the slide rails.

That's my take on it too. If I pay a premium, I expect some reasonable durability. And like I said, if it doesn't affect function, I don't much care. If it progresses, I'll contact Sig about it. The gun shot great so I don't want to worry too much.

From what I gathered on the sigforum the Legion PVD finish holds up best if you keep it "wet", by slathering it on oil and letting it sit for a few minutes before wiping it off with a rag.

I did this with Ballistol (i was shooting and cleaning it almost weekly) on my 226 SAO and 6 months daily carry in a kydex holster and I dont know how many thousands presentations and my exterior finish only has a couple little rub spots.

Just wanted to do a quick update.

I’ve had a little frustration with the guide rod on this gun. For some reason that could only be cost savings, Sig used a two piece guide rod on this model. I’ve applied Loctite twice, and it just keeps unscrewing.

Pretty irritating that given the price of the gun I needed to replace something like a guide rod with an after market part.

After Googling a bit apparently this is a known issue. However someone does make a solid rod for the P938.

Two piece on the left. Aftermarket solid on the right.

What kind of loctite did you try? I used the red high-temp and mine has never come un-screwed.

Unfortunately I only had blue on hand, so I’m guessing the heat from shooting the gun was enough to do it in. I should have mentioned that. It’s not that Loctite failed or anything. I suppose getting some red would’ve been cheaper and simpler, but it would’ve bugged me.

I guess it just seems a poor design choice by Sig to my eye.

Put a little grease and torque on mine.

No problem as yet.

(now, the grip screws...?}
