I have no horse in this race but I would not worry about the S&W 1911 holding up.

It's a non-issue for me, but Smith does use an external extractor on their 1911's. Some people are put off by that. As long as it works I don't care.

I've got two S&W 1911s. One is the PD, it's a scandium framed commander and it came with laser grips. The other is a full sized model with adjustable sights.

The PD is my normal carry pistol and has been for years. The full sized one I shoot in matches. Both are very accurate and have been extremely reliable.

The combined round count is well north of 10k.

i don’t have a 1911 but for a $300-500 working handgun aren’t the philippine brands (ria, citadel, ati...) decent and reliable?

Phillys will go bang but the problem is that holes don’t always line up properly leading to hand fitting parts that should be interchangeable.
This has been my experience with cheap 1911 pistols

farm23, IMHO i would go with SR1911 LW CMD, it's the better "value" for the money and it has an internal extractor, if that's your preference.

I have an S&W 1911SC is been an excellent reliable gun, some of the new ones you can get round butted, my favorite 1911s are Colt, though

I have not read through the entire thread.
I purchased a S&W Sc right after it was first introduced. I have been happy with mine and I think the weight on mine is 28 oz. A very well made gun for the paultry price back then of under $800 street price new. Now I think they are in the $1200 range. Very good gun but I have seen some Dan Wesson 1911 at great prices on GunDeals.com. DW make a really fine 1911 for the money. It would scratch your itch for years to come.
