I'll second that! I have a Williams aperture (peep) sight on mine. I don't know how many current eating starlings it's accounted for - our current bushes are behind the garden, about 30 yards from our back door.Sheridan Blue Streak.

I have a gamo urban .22 PCP rifle I got for around $250. You get about 30 consistent shots before the air goes to the red zone. It’s an amazing value.
I also bought a budget 300bar air pump online. since I’m more a firearms guy and this is just for quiet plinking I didn’t want to dump cash into it. The pump only cost $50 and had worked very well for me.
For $300 I have a 10 shot rotary mag PCP air rifle that shoots 30 shots on a fill, with a pump
Benjamin Wildfire PCP rifle is $129.99 at Pyramyd Air. It’s cheaper than the hand pump.
edit: actually there's hand pumps for air guns going for $50 on the net. I don't know if any of these things are any good, just did a quick search.
I keep thinking of a Benjamin Discovery. It is a very well regarded low/mid grade PCP (Pre Charged Pneumatic) rifle. However, you need a plan for charging it. There is the floor pump (a bike similar to a bicycle pump in appearance). There are also some high-pressure electric pumps in the 350-500 range. Of course, as was mentioned, you can also get a high-pressure tank and have it filled locally if that is an option for you.
Concerns about the Discovery are that it is not magazine fed, so follow up shots will be slower. The necessary un-shouldering between shots, to reload, as compared to just working a bolt, may also impact group size. It is also considered quite loud for an air rifle.
