No more PIF.

Do whaaaaat!!!

I have been the recipient of 3 PIF. BDS sent a press, brass, priming tool and birthday gifts. Varminterrors bullet PIF. Dudedogs PIF on bullets. All 3 members offered out of the kindness of their heart and PIF is one of the very things that makes this place the best forum on the net.

I am still helping out my "medically challenged" parents out of state and was hoping to possibly restart the "Thank you THR PIF" thread after retirement but now I too am beginning to be "medically challenged" myself and the reason for early retirement.

Believe me, choose your parents carefully. On top of diabetes, high blood pressure/cholesterol my parents gave me, I now have spinal stenosis with occasional back spasms and when I saw my eye doctor to get my progressive glasses adjusted (Yes, my right shooting eye was off and fuzziness was not due to scopes), he did an urgent referral and now I have glaucoma with optic nerve damage and a "touch" of cataract in my left eye. And when I mentioned tingling and numbness of my fingers to the neurosurgeon during my follow up visit, he smiles and says, "Oh, that's carpal tunnel damage. Try not using your hands/fingers and avoid typing on keyboard. Do you use your hands/fingers and type a lot?" I quietly told him thousands of rounds I reloaded and shot with various projects I have pursued for my wife, the neurosurgeon just looked at me and asked to come back when pain/numbness/tingling got really bad. :what:

Do I use my hands/fingers a lot and type a lot?:rofl::rofl: Hmmm, let's see ... On a daily basis I cook, clean the kitchen, do laundry, take care of animals (dogs, chickens, turkeys, piglets) and "occasionally" do reloading/shooting stuff along with addressing my wife's growing project list. NOPE, I hardly use my hands or fingers. :D As to typing, I guess I could learn to peck with a stick in my mouth. :D

And when I visited my parents 2 days ago, they are now entertaining moving to a city in another state to be closer to better medical facilities. (I mean we just finished their new house and got them moved in!!! Give me a break, for real!) Since then, I have been talking to wife about us moving too (My parents will need in-home care soon) and she goes, "Well, you will need better medical facilities too later in retirement". ;) Oh man, don't remind me ... :(

My advice, don't get old and yes, choose your parents carefully. < Now, what did we do with those moving boxes ... >

No, I am just trying to clear all the clutter I have collected over the years so I can remodel the house for wife (and now likely to sell the house for the move to another state). :D I may have to step up my PIF if we end up moving to another state (In fact, mom and I will be going on a road trip next week for a "scouting mission" to check out a few cities/towns).

bds discontinued his due to family commitments but blarby's is still there.

I initially started the "Thank You THR PIF" to give those working and cannot be by the computer all day long a chance as blarby's PIF thread items were given to people who responded first with "I will take it".

By allowing a random drawing from a pool of interested people week or two later, there's more of chance for working members who cannot be at the computer all the time.

Maybe I will talk to Walkalong in re-opening the "Thank You THR PIF" thread when things settle down a bit.

I think I'll sit on them for now until I see someone who's trying a bunch of bullets without luck.

Having experienced and watched the notion of "Pay It Forward" seeded and perpetuated most of my life, I am convinced more than enough that "cosmic universal goodness" of goodwill ensures all facets of PIF "butterfly effect" transcend human greed.

Meaning, notion of PIF seems to pair the seeder with the right recipient in need when such opportunity arises.

I think it all works out for good all around, despite human "interference" or our misdirected influence. ;):)

Oh and BTW, I am not only a seeder of PIF but an ongoing recipient of PIF as well (They are too numerous and not gun related to post on THR). Recently, elderly man I did PIF defensive point shooting to mastery with his wife, neighbor and son/girlfriend is PIF (with his friend) to me deep ocean halibut fishing to mastery as I perpetuate my PIF of defensive point shooting to everyone who express interest in learning - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...e-situation-video.849479/page-2#post-11180959

This may come as a surprise to many but having had a rough childhood lacking many things we all take for granted, I was a greedy egocentric bastard in my younger days who grew a big head quickly due to above-average intelligence/near photographic memory and rose to management/project management/directorship quickly in early 30's to 40's.

Thanks to my reloading/shooting mentor who took me under his wings and taught me the virtues of PIF and countless generous local/regional USPSA match shooters who taught me the virtues of humbleness as in "There are always those who are better than you so just focus on improving against yourself" as you pursue the 'Zen' level of shooting", I have learned to appreciate the notion of starting to live a life of PIF concurrently and gradually grew to become more grounded as to what is real and practical instead of dreams and hype.

Even though I am blessed with a great retirement pension with nice 401K/Roth IRA along with a happy wife of 24 years, I struggle on a daily basis of human greed vs life's blessing.

In the end, I usually hope to convince myself that ultimately, everything that I own really don't belong to me as I came into this world with nothing and eventually, I will leave this world with nothing and I am simply "allowed" to borrow/use some things while I experience life in this world.

So the notion of PIF grants me to weaponize my goodwill to mankind against human greed and egocentrism that this world seems to focus on. I don't wish to live forever rather I wish to impart goodwill on fellow human that could perpetuate for generations.

In this episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard becomes unconscious when they approach a space where a planet used to exist. During the brief moment of unconsciousness, Picard lives an entire lifetime on the planet where he gets married with children and pursues a different profession. After dying surrounded by children and many grandchildren, he regains consciousness back again on the floor of USS Enterprise and this video is where he reflects his "renewed" life experience flavored by having lived another lifetime.

For me, PIF notion has evolved to where I now consider PIF not just a gesture of goodwill to mankind but living my "expanded" life vicariously through recipients of my PIF. Call me crazy but that's the defining perspective of retirement I chose to pursue. :D On a grander scale, I am simply a "tool" or "conduit" to perpetuate the "goodwill" that exists on a cosmic/galactic universal scale beyond our comprehension.:)

Like Picard, I have had many vivid "lifetime" dreams where I lived an entire lifetime married with children and pursued different occupation/profession; and as I start my retirement, I have rekindled my love/joy of music through piano/guitar/violin as I already PIF my electric piano to my mother when they moved to the new house and Yamaha acoustic guitar I started out with to my nephew as he starts college living at the dorm. Don't worry, I was PIF a better electric piano and I have 8 other guitars. Picking up where my music appreciation/composition class left off in college (Van Helen brothers were taught by the same professor), I am composing my first piano pieces dedicated to my mother and wife. And no, I am not a musician as my college major was BioChemistry.

Live long and prosper in your reloading/shooting hobby.

I love it when they tell you everything you eat is going to kill you. And starving won't?
Good luck BDS and don't let age get to you. We all thought we were indestructible when we were young. Then we get older and find out what kind of fools we were.

I love it when doctors tell you to just stop using your hands for a while. :scrutiny:
My neurosurgeon tells me I can bend forwards and backwards but shouldn't rotate at the waist ... Dang, how am I supposed to wipe?

I guess I could go Roman and use a sponge at the end of a stick.:D

Last year about this time I did something to my lower back which made me take several days off work. Your question became quite the challenge for me in that time. It made me realize the simple things I take for granted.

Get a bidet? Or rig up a garden hose...

Isn't that the truth.
Something else that has changed, the sock over the back scratcher is about all my insurance will pay for any more. And that's not funny or easy to deal with either.
I passed a few things forward from Blardy's and BDS's , and Dudedogs influence and I'm glad I was able to do it.
It made me feel pretty good, it'hard to afford to do but we are all the better for it.

Wow this thread went to “crap” lol. I’m laughing out loud at these comments.
