CC&R

Don't know what my first by will be. Likely something made by Colt. And something that the ex would have been upset with.

Guess I'm the last of the big spenders. At the gun show today I picked up a 4" Army Special in 32 WCF for $370. Bore is squeaky clean. Honest holster wear on the blue. Grips are beaten a bit, but go with the gun.

That's awesome. Do you guys still see a benefit for that type of license? From my (very limited) observation it seems most sellers don't know the rules / recognize C&R licenses. Maybe I'm wrong.

The big benefit is from mail order. You don't have to pay a ffl for transfer. In a face to face sale you swap paperwork, which takes about as long as going with the 4473. When I asked the seller about doing a CC&R on this gun he was eager to meet my needs.

Peak C&R availability has well passed but there are some things still out there. These guys: https://www.classicfirearms.com/c-r-eligible/ are easy to deal with. I suggest the CZ-82. The one I got from them was much better than I was expecting. I'm giving the SKS a look.

Took 6 weeks to get mine back but the Christmas/New Years holidays were during the 6 weeks.

I bought my first Colt using my C&R (recently, too). A Colt 1903 made in '21. It's a thrill receiving a firearm right to your door that's been on your short-list for decades!

If you are a fan of older firearms, a C&R is the ticket. Currently, anything manufactured before 1969 is eligible, but always check with the seller. As noted above, some sellers don't have a clue. I had one refuse my C&R because the gun was not "original" because it had been reblued! Don't even argue with that type mentality.

He might have just wanted to be ‘safe, rather than sorry’,,, may have been visited and warmed by the ATF in the past.

I have one of those early Chinese 56 SKS. Bought it in the late 80s for $85 (new in the box) and a case of Norinco ammo for $20. It is a well built gun. Since my local range doesn't allow steel jacket bullets, I have been pulling the bullets, dumping the powder and reloading. With a scope I can cover a group with a quarter. I recommend you buy one. I thought about buying another, but my safe is full.

You are not wrong....some (usually FFL's that work out of their house) are shy of them...likely because they dont know the laws.

I would not use that as a hard and fast rule.

I would also say if you cruise the auction sites you can find good stuff, Rock Island and Morphy are great to work with.

Also getting a gun mailed to you.....is this a great country or what.
