I don't know but 6mm HAGAR sounds like it would really rock and roll.

So just add primer, powder, bullet, and shoot?

What is the difference between that and 6mm x 6.8? 6mmAR has a wider case body? All things equal, a 50-100fps difference between 6 Hagar and 6mmAr? Easier to neck up 224V to 6 or neck down 6.5G to 6?
I don't know you might ask Sammy.

Kidding aside, it was the 2012 National High Power Rifle winning cartridge

I have a 40x Remington in 6-47 and it shoots very well, a 87gr v-max at 2800 fps kills deer very well. easy to reload. 222 Remington mag brass necks up in the swipe. I have 200 rounds of new unprimed brass and maybe another 70-80 that I have been loading(2-3 times).

With respect, and while acknowledging your desire to be difficult, if you don't reload, this whole thing is just silly. Buy a light, handy rifle chambered in 243 Win and enjoy. :D
I have .243, .270, 300 BLK, 30 Bellm, 209x.45 They all work fine. Being a nerd, part of the fun is seeking out the ultimate.

Just saw this... 24 Nosler? Will that be released? Basically a 6mm Valkyrie w/ a .223 bolt face? Thoughts? Add it to the poll?

Like others, I wouldn't fool with any of this if I wasn't planning to reload. However, if I were placing a bet on which would be most popular, and therefore have the most OTC ammo available a year or two from now, I might pay attention to this: https://precisionrifleblog.com/2018/12/14/rifle-caliber/ (Short version: 6mm Dasher is now the leading choice in the Precision Rifle game... and that game seems to have been influential in the broader world of guns and shooting gear up to now).

So to organize by parent...
220 Russian (6mm AR, 6mm Turbo)
308 (6mm Dasher)
30 Remington [6.8spc] (6mm Hagar)
Custom (24 Nosler [.223 bolt face])

308 based I will rule out because there isn't a bolt face for the 527 (even though ATLDave has a good argument). For simplicity, 6mm Hagar and 24 Nosler brass can be purchased already formed. How about 6mm AR, is anyone selling brass? Of those three, the Hagar or the 24 has the smallest dimensions? I.e. If 2 years from now 6mm AR became the winner a reamer and a new bolt would be all that is necessary to change?

6mm AR and turbo are easy to make from Grendel brass. In a nutshell you neck down for the smaller diameter bullet. You then fire form the Turbo to get final dimensions. The best 5 group shot I’ve ever had was fireforming this brass

Might be the answer to my question... And excitingly enough, rebarreling a .223 527 and buying a 7.62x39 mag might be the easiest solution.

https://www.shootingtimes.com/editorial/review-the-24-nosler/357574

"When this report was written, Nosler had not finalized the exact dates of its 2019 product launches, and that included the Armageddon AR-15 in 24 Nosler and loaded ammunition for it. The load data I received in May 2018 for 55-, 85-, 90-, and 105-grain bullets was shortly thereafter posted on the Nosler website. Unprimed cases in 100-count prepped and 250-count unprepped packaging were scheduled for late 2018. In June Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool & Gauge started shipping chamber reamers for the 24 Nosler as well as the 20 Nosler (more on it a bit farther on)."

Let's be real here. None of those caliber are ever going to be "mainstream". If you're not a reloader, purchasing one of those calibers and hoping for factory ammo is a fool's errand...IMHO. Either get into reloading and you can you go down whatever wildcat cartridge rabbit hole your heart desires, or stick with a caliber that is already in full production from a variety of ammo companies.

And while we are being real, CZ is never going to "release" a 527 in any of those calibers either. So you're going to have to buy a custom barrel, have a gunsmith rebarrel the 527 action, and likely reblue the whole new barreled action or least refinish in Cerakote or some other ilk.

CZ used to sell blued 527 receivers for custom work. Don’t know if they still do or not. I bought a couple so I could build a Grendel and 6 months later CZ added that chamber. Typical of my luck. I agree, however, that we won’t see a 6mm variation.

Difficult is right. I would never considering getting a rifle in a niche cartridge like that if I didn't reload.

None of those cartridges will hit the mainstream in the next 5 years.

If I were going to go that route I would get a 7.62x39, and if there is enough meat there to do it, have it shortened and chambered for 300 blackout.

Factory 125gr supersonic ammo will work fine for deer.

The CZ 527 is available from the factory in both .300 AAC and 7.62x39. Gots me one apiece -- this is my .300 AAC in a MDT chassis:

I would like to get a CZ527 in a 6mm. 6.5 Grendel or 224 Valkerie are much easier choices, but I want to be difficult. In short, 224 V isn't a legal deer cartridge in all states, and 6mm bullets of the same proportions of a 6.5mm will be 25% lighter and have the associated reduced recoil and faster velocity.

Problem is I don't like to reload. I have done a little bit of it, and I just don't have the time for it right now.

So of the available options (6mm PPC, AR, 40 Tubro, Fat Rat, Dasher, BR, etc) Are there any custom shops selling loaded ammo? I've seen some 6mm PPC, will that need a custom bolt? I don't think 243 WSSM is safe for the 527 and it is a little excessive in this context.

If you had to guess what wildcat would hit the mainstream in the next 5 years, which would you guess? Ideally, it would be nice to chamber in the cartridge that factory ammo becomes available for. But second best would be to chamber in something that could be reamed to the factory version in the future.

I feel like it would be silly for no one to release a 6mm to fill the void. And as a side note, I think an ultralight 527 chambered in it would be the ultimate mountain rifle, with minimal recoil even in a 5lb rifle. Also great for youths. With advanced powders and copper alloy bullets, it wouldn't be far behind the 243 win, possibly the most prolific youth cartridge. All in a gun 3oz lighter, 1/2" shorter, and faster cycling than short actions.

Last question... Should I just stop being impatient and wait till one is released?

If you do go the custom route with the CZ527 platform, my advice would be to start by looking at their available factory magazines and make sure you have a reliable feeding device in the chosen caliber from the outset.

A few shooters converted their .223 527s to .300 AAC back before the factory offered the chambering, and then found they also had to cut holes in the sides of their .223 mags to get them to work.

I'm not really a 6mm guy so I don't have any specific opinions here, but just remember that single-stack mags are relatively cartridge specific.

What are everyone's thoughts of 527 coming in 224 Valkyrie?
I'm thinking maybe just starting .223 and then when I'm ready going to 24 Nosler on the same bolt face and reloading myself.
I'm wondering if drt 79gr .223 will be as good as they say on deer... Now I'm getting way off-topic.

That's pretty awesome.

It took several years for CZ to offer the 527 in Grendel. I would expect a wait of several years for the Valkyrie. The wildcard is their new plant they are building in Arkansas. It may allow them to quickly follow market trends. We will have to wait and see.

You can search all kinds of forums and find lots of deer taken with 223 bullets these days. For a youth gun, a 223 would be acceptable for deer hunting. For an adult, I might kind of question why a grown man was deer hunting with a 223. But that's just me. This also coming from a guy who took a doe last year with a 22 Hornet just to see if it could be done. And it can!

They appear but rarely, seems mostly in the 7.62x39 bolt face pattern...

The new factory is supposedly for Handguns only, mainly for the P-10 in an attempt to penetrate the American LE market...good luck.

In currently available models the 6.5 Grendel would and in fact does do it for me.

The most important factor in a rifle is how well you shoot it.

I would argue at $0.16/rnd most people young or old will be a better shot...

Well, very recently I think Hornaday has standardized the 6mmARC. I expect not much longer until someone chambers a turn bolt in it.

I'm kinda hoping for a Ruger American with a 18-20" barrel, but if it's only released as a 16" I'll live with it. Although, if in another year they haven't, I'll live happily with a 16" 6.5G I'm sure.
