My reciprocity state CCW is about to expire so I applied for a home state CCW Friday afternoon of last week. I had already received my safety course certificate right at five years ago taking the course with my wife. She renewed her CCW at this same visit.
Total time for my wife’s renewal was about 15 minutes. Amazingly to me, my total time for app., prints, approval and permit was right at 30 minutes. For my original reciprocity CCW permit about 10 years ago, total wait time was about 45 days - things have sped up quite a bit!

I grew up in upstate NY. I tried to apply for a permit there for firearms legally bought and carried in VT when I was a student. It took me 30 minutes just to pick up the NYS pistol application. When I moved to Alabama, I had a carry permit in 20 minutes.

Be glad you aren't from Il. The "law" says FOIDS must be processed in 30 days, CCW in 60 or 90. Each takes whatever it takes, usually multiples of the specified period.

My last renewal took 5 minutes filling out the form on the website and a week for the new permit to come in the mail.

It should be like it was in VT or is in Alaska. One should not need carry permit if they're allowed to buy a handgun. That requirement is infringement on 2nd Amendment Right.
I agree, but I don't think that's what this thread is about. So for the purpose of posting in this thread: A few minutes ago, it took me 42 seconds (I timed myself) to cut up my CCW License and throw it in the burn barrel trash - Idaho no longer requires licenses/permits for residents to carry concealed.:D And I think open carry in Idaho has been legal since before my dad was born.
BTW, my Idaho CCW License expired earlier this month anyway. I only hung onto mine for the past couple of years because having it replaced the phone-in background checks for purchasing firearms from a licensed dealer.
