the P226 and P229 , what I think.

I prefer the P226. I haven't owned a P229, but I did use to have a German P228. For whatever reason, the P226 fits me better than most other pistols and I was surprised at how naturally it shot for me when I first got one many years ago. I shoot the P210 and sometimes a 1911 better, but the P226 is definitely my favorite double stack pistol.

OT....sort of.

This is a really cool thread. Lots of folks talking about enjoying their Sig 226/229/22#. Not a discouraging word for anyone’s opinions...respectful discussion, the way THR should be.

So tell me, if I created a thread identical to this, with stats, pics, and opinions, but substituted a Glock 17/19, how much wailing and gnashing of teeth would we see?

Sorry for the OT...

G19 9mm
G23 .40
G32 .357 Sig
G30S .45acp
That would be my choices in Glock
1911s a commander size
basically I'm a midsize pistol fan, they are the best all around package in just about any brand or format

Today my only Sigs are a pair of P228s (both are '94) and a P6 ('01). All were proofed in Kiel.

Owned a typical DA/SA 229 for several months, but spotted the Very rare (in this area) P6 in the used case at Shoot Point Blank. Instant trade: swapping a gun still produced for a type no longer manufactured.

Buzznrose: the fact that Glocks are extremely popular has kept prices for used Sigs more affordable.
What level-headed adult --over age eighteen--"gnashes teeth" over somebody else's gun choices? Such behavior indicates very little confidence in what they bought, or any maturity. What you suggested must be a pair of teenage girls.

I read so many nice things about the Sig P-series that I decided to get myself one. I would have preferred the larger P226 (I'm a big guy), but I ran across this police turn-in 40 caliber P229 that was just too good a deal for me to resist (about $300 OTD, with the box and three magazines). It is "finish challenged" on one side particularly, but apparently wasn't shot much. The balance and trigger are great. Everyone who has shot it likes it a lot, including me. It is obviously a high-quality firearm. It's probably my favorite 40 caliber service pistol, and I have some nice ones.

To stray OT a little bit, I didn't know that the old/defunct Spanish manufacturer Astra made some military/police pistols that were extremely similar to the Sigs. I ran across one in 45acp recently and couldn't resist the low price. It feels and shoots just like my P229. It's an extremely fun range toy that cost me very little.

I have a 229 Classic and I've shot my friends 226 several times.

It's a wash. I could go with either. If I found a surplus 9mm 226 for a good price I would have one of those also.
