MTM ammo crate?

There are a LOT more than 3 sizes of MTM ammo craters.

I’m using several different sizes of MTM cases I’ve bought this year from Amazon. Suggest you check prices and reviews at Amazon.com, regardless where you buy from.

My boxes seem very well made. No initial issues. Most are stacked for ammunition storage. A couple are storing empty mags. Using one under the back seat of my pickup to store misc. gear. They are great for the price. Quality is similar (same?) as Cabelas dry storage gear boxes.

The pic was taken after I bought my first few to try. I’m up to 8 of the ACR8-72’s and 6 ACR5-72’s.

So far so good...

Should add, you can really fill these suckers up with a lot of ammo, but then you have to lift it.

I used to keep my ammo stacked in their cardboard shipping cases in different closets around the house, but I decided to simplify and try these. I did a lot of reading about metal versus plastic cases. Ultimately, decided on n plastic.

I generally have 1800-2500 rounds in the larger boxes. I’m keeping an eye out for sagging, but none thus far. I stuck a few desiccant packs in each before I sealed them with zip ties.

Overall spent a couple hundred bucks to get things better organized and keep my inventory easier. Sealed cases means I can’t just pop it open and grab a few boxes on my way out the door.

I like them.
I have a couple for reloading supplies.
And I have a few that I keep loaded rounds which are in 50 and 100 round boxes.

I also have friends that use them for gear that they keep in their car trunks.

I wouldn’t use them hold loose rounds as others have said they can get heavy fast.

I don't like them. My personal experience is they do not hold well to even a little rough handling without cracking.

Ammo cans work great for holding a lot of loose rounds. I can testify to the fact that if you drop one of the MTM cans when it is full of bullets it will break.

However that is not necessarily a bad thing. Your family doctor will praise you on your next visit about how well your new exercise program of bending over repeatedly to pick up the loose rounds which have scattered everywhere is working. You may even notice that your waistline is getting smaller and your pants are fitting looser,

I buy 30 caliber military surplus ammo cans in very good to excellent condition for $8.00 and 50 caliber ones for $10.00 from a dealer at a regular Gun Show I go to. They easily withstand the roughest handling I can give them.

I would like to just mentioned, at harbor freight has their 30 cal plastic ammo cans on sale with coupon for $2.99 each

I only have one and it came with 1k 9mm from Brownells a couple years ago. I have only ever used it taking to the range and putting my spent brass in it. I'm just personally more comfortable with GI metal ammo cans for ammo or component long term storage.

Same here, I'm just dismayed at what they are charging for USGI ammo cans these days... but you get what you pay for.

I've got one of those MTM AR mag cans, same thing as their ammo cans just fitted with slots for AR mags. It's OK, but when I've got it stuffed with loaded 30rd AR mags (about 20 of them) it's pretty heavy and it makes me nervous. I just don't trust the plastic handle or, more so, the plastic latches. I really wish the latches locked down.

Yep in my case when filling a .50 can with 12-1300 .45 ACP, plastic ain't gonna cut it.

I use a lot of MTM products and love them. I recently bought a large dry box to store and help organize my bullet molds. But I doubt that their ammo cans will hold up to serious abuse or heavy loads.

I also remember seeing some test where different ammo cans were loaded up and submerged. The steel military ones did not leak while the plastic ones eventually did.

You still see military ammo cans at gun shows, sometimes for reasonable prices.

I use MTM stuff to carry boxes of ammo to the range, for storage I use the GI 50's and 30's...

MTM makes a decent carry box, I haven't ever had an issue.

I have a couple of them. I've loaded them up pretty heavy with ammo and they seem to hold up when moved. I have never moved the more than a few feet at a time so I can't say if they would survive being thrown around. I would recommend getting the small sized ones. I had one of the larger ones filled up with loaded ammo, it was an injury waiting to happen. I now use it to store empty magazines because I didn't want to lift it full again.

I concur with everybody who said these boxes will not hold up with a lot of weight being moved a lot. I don’t use mine to haul a lot of weight, I use mine to store ammo. Thus far, they stack with a lot of weight fine, but I wouldn’t trust them necessarily to haul it in and out of my vehicle a lot.

Again, my reason for using them is because these are relatively water and moisture resistant and have a rubber seal, and I threw a bunch of desiccant packs in to keep them dry. Just using it instead of cardboard boxes which could become damp and hold moisture.

The one I own is labeled as holding a flat of shotgun ammo. With 1-1/8oz loads, that's about 35#; I have carried by an end grip, holds up fine.

I use these and they are strong. 2200 9mm loaded ammo and no problem carrying without worry of opening.O-ring sealed for storage.

In general, I don't like storing ammo in containers that shout AMMO.

I do use mil-surp GI ammo cans, but these have long been used to store everything from tools to plumbing pipe fittings to tire chains, and occasionally ammo.

The flat MTM box for sliding under a bed does look like an interesting option for ammo storage though---it would certainly keep your ammo out of sight and organized if that's what you want to do.

I have (2) of the 'single height' versions and one of the double height. They work great for a flat (or 2) of 12 GA. I carry the singles by one end as well, but the double stays in the house.

I also have several of the MTM ammo cans. I do not fill them full of loose rounds.
I also have several of the metal ammo cans. I do not fill them any fuller than I do the MTM's. (Weight)

Have a couple three dozen of their 100 rnd ammo boxes as well.

Been pretty happy with their stuff.

MTM stuff holds up pretty well, I often take one or two to the range with muffs or magazine. I use them to store loose ammo and load before heading out. Brass storage I use Tidy Cat 35lbs cat litter buckets which are rugged and stackable.
