how do you use your bipod when hunting?

Only time when hunting was when sitting in low spot and minimal sweep range of shot. If I had wide sweep range I set pieces of wood around shootin lanes.
Sitting against brush whether wide or minimal sweep I use knee. Being able to shoot either hand makes movement minimal.

Don't use one on my hunting rifles for various reasons already stated on this forum, in fact my back pack is about all the steadiness I need on any shots up to and over 200 yards from a huge boulder or tree limb. I prefer my shots to be at 100 yards or less.

I picked up a Harris bipod that some optimist attached to an old Mini-14, along with a nice Leupold scope and an aftermarket 20-round magazine.
I paid $400.00 for the whole mess, basically buying the scope and getting the rest for free.
The Mini-14 cleaned up nice and is a fun shooter, although it isn't particularly accurate.
I still haven't found a use for the bipod.

I often run the Harris 9-13 on the front, and use a suede "front" shooting bag at the rear.
Have shot half inch groups from several rifles (at 100 yds) with that setup.
Good enough.

I guess no one uses a hasty sling or a three loop sling anymore. And all that time spent learning how to shoot well standing, sitting, and prone. What a waste.
Oh yeah, but, alas, there comes a time when you can no longer assume the position.:(

For normal hunting ranges, I shoot from a Primos trigger stick monopod, and I only use a bipod on my rifles to keep them out of the mud, wet grass, or snow. Longer ranges, I’m either hunting from a bench or prone, laying the rifle on the pod.

I don’t hunt much but last animal I shot was coyote about 90 yards offhand. No time to sling up. I miss using a 1907 sling in high power though. More of a lost art every day
