pardon me if this has already been asked and answered...

I’m trying to find reloading data for a Henry 45-70 (tube loader style) lever action rifle. I have been looking through my books and I see ruger (which I believe it too high pressure loads for my rifle) and I see marlin as well as trapdoor marlin. I don’t see anything for my Henry lever action. I know this is a powerful rifle that I don’t want to test the limits and have the gun and my body shredded by loading too high.

I’m just looking for a middle ground load data that I can hit steal with and I normally carry this on my mountains in case a get the nice surprise of a momma bear walking up behind me.

So anyone have some decent load data they can share with me?

Much appreciated

Hodgdon's online load data site has 45-70 data for the Trapdoor pressure loads, Levergun pressures and hot Modern rifle loads too.

If you don't want to use Hodgdon/ IMR/ Winchester powders other powder company sites have data too and so does current Lyman manuals.

I like to use AA5744, IMR4198, H4198 and IMR3031 for loading the 45-70 usually with a 405gr cast bullet.

Good luck

Lyman manuals have the one of the best 45/70 section

I also load for the Marlin using 405gr I use 4198 powder but I've never tried anything else, it always goes BANG and the deer dropped, I started using the Lee dipper and found just a little more than the dipper weight was more accurate at 100yrds but all my shots have been 50yrds or less

A Henry should use the same loads as Marlin, I've always like 38 grs. IMR 4198 Speer 400 gr. flat point.
