On a lark, are there quality alternataives for the Aimport CompM4? I like the Aimport, but don't want to sink that much money into the optic if there are good alternatives to what the Aimport was designed for.

Well if we're talking about a different style and footprint of red dot than the CompM4 or similar then there are multiple other options. Primary arms and a bunch of other makers like Holosun make reasonably priced red dots that are pretty high quality.

I use Aimpoint CompM products on the 'serious use' long guns and use the Primary Arms CompM clone on the training rifles.
If going cheap, like rbernie said.......Primary Arms.
Had one, worked fine.
My next one, should there be such a purchase, will be an Aimpoint.
I have a Leupold RDS.......it was 300.
Heavy, and on a rifle.
The Aimpoint would be my choice if setting up a deer pistol with a tube style red dot.
It worked well on my TC (Primary Arms)......in .223 and .35 rem.
The gun shot so well in .223 that the 3 MOA dot was too big.
That dot size was fine on the deer bbl.
I'd go with the newer versions w 2 MOA.
Had one, worked fine.

Very nearly as good as a CompM4 for much less cash. The only real performance differences that I can remember are less battery life (but it’s still really good) and fewer brightness settings.
