What's the most accurate production 22 LR rifle produced today?

Obviously, I need to clarify my question if the gun pictured above was the right answer.

What is the most accurate 22 LR rifle under 500 bucks and suitable for small game hunting?
I would vote for a CZ-455, or 452 or the new 457. I paid $297 for my new CZ-455 Standard a few months back, and it shoots very well with CCI Standard Velocity ammo. It even came with a very nice set of iron sights.

CZ45X for X=2, 5, 7, etc

I assume the question was for the product line, not individual examples. In the real world, I have seen outstanding accuracy from rifles from several manufacturers, but some needed some tweaking (eg, a Remington 583 that would shoot 1" 5- shot groups at 100 yards on my good, calm days). But, CZs have a consistently good reputation.

I'm no authority on it, but if it's under 500 bucks and suitable for small game I've been impressed by various models of Savage & Ruger American rimfires that I've seen in use. Although I sure do like my CZ-455, which has now been replaced by the CZ-457. Not sure what the prices are now on the CZ's but I'd consider one even if it's used. CZ would be my first choice but Savage & Ruger have some nice stuff also.

Balrog,

Given your comments in threads like the "HK handgun having no soul" (which I agree with BTW), your comments about your appreciation for the build quality of the Wilson Combat 1911s, etc., I suggest you get a CZ 452. I say this because I think you will likely appreciate MORE than just the accuracy of the 452. I think you'll find something in those guns that you connect with, and just enjoy the act of shooting and operating them. Every generation since the 452 -- that is, the 455 and especially the 457 -- is a departure from the old-school special "something" that the original BRNO guns from the 1940s and 1950s started with, and the 452s largely continued.

If you plan to scope it, I'd recommend you get the 452 American. They have been out of production since 2017 or so, but it's no major problem to find a new one or a like-new one. The other 452 models (the iron-sighted models) can definitely be scoped, but you have to be more picky with scopes and mounts to get the scope mounted as low as many people like. Beware though, that your first one isn't likely to be your last one. :)

Here's a 452 American.

If you are going to shoot open sights, I'd recommend a 452 Lux or Trainer (they're the same gun, except that the Lux has a Walnut stock, Trainer has Beech).

Don't think that you need to spend $500.00 for a well performing .22 rifle. My .22 rifle is a bolt action Marlin XT-22RZ that I purchased new for just over $100 dollars. It has an adjustable trigger but I paid a gunsmith around $25.00 to smooth it out and it will cloverleaf shots together at 25 yards. This is a respectful distance for hunting with a .22 rifle.

For under 500 bucks cz's are hard to beat.
Sadly, Tikka's have no iron sights thus no opinion.
A 452 ultra lux, Trainer owner happy owner and honorable mention to a 513 Farmer.

I really think those old Marlin bolt 22's are under rated....I have a old 22n and it shoots just amazing....has an old Japanese Tasco scope on it as well....crystal clear.

My near 40 year old Kimber is the most accurate .22 rifle I've ever fired with my going on 60 year old Marlin 39A coming in second.

I have a 453 Varminter. Comes with heavy barrel and single set trigger. Dunno about the specifics on various CZ models, but I’d most strongly suggest the set trigger

Mine routinely shoots sub 1/2” with the correct ammunition and a solid bench. It’s got a 4-14x40 VX-3 scope

With that in mind I like the CZ guns. I have a CZ 452LH (Left Hand) American which is a real nice rifle that came in under your price point. I don't think the CZ 452 or 455 is still in production but you can likely find a slightly used one or another CZ variation. like the below:

Once you have a good rifle don't hesitate to play around with ammunition, including many of the ELEY flavors. I have an old Anshutz/Savage which really shoots the lower end Eley stuff very well.

I've had very good results with my Ruger Charger at 50 yards. Haven't tried 100 on paper yet, but I'm figuring 1.5 MOA @100y is likely with CCI Standard.

I've been around some CZ's, Savages and Rugers that shoot pretty well. My 77-22 shoots 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with most any kind of ammo. I have a Leopold 1.5-5 scope on it.
