Mine looks just like that. 581 series wood/blued. They are quite capable guns for any task, home defense, target, pest control I used it to take out a gopher yesterday at 100 yards using the iron sights. I was quite happy.
Like Bill Murray said in Caddyshack..."the only good gopher ..is a dead gopher"

Wish I'd kept the one I had years ago. It was a stainless model with a grey/black laminated stock.

It also gives it the same length-to-sight as an M1 Garand.

So, with a proper cheek weld, you get a crystal clear front sight in an aperture a blade's width wider than the dog ears.

nice looking rifle. How does it shoot?

Nice truck gun! Ironically I emailed Ruger a few days ago to ask them to make Mini 30 pistol with a short barrel and stabilizing brace. That would make for a handier truck gun.

I decided I wanted one way back in the 1980's, but life got in the way, along with other "must have" guns. Few years ago I realized that I've never acquired a mini 14; and now I feel deprived. Now that I'm retired I'm thinning things out and selling some guns that have become "safe queens". That means getting some more money and having some room in the safes once again. Most of you know what that leads to.........

I had 2-3 of those back in the day. I didn't dislike them, didn't like them enough to keep one long either. But at times do wish I'd kept one of them. I had one in SS with the synthetic stock in the early 90's that I liked better than the wood stocks. Those with no checkering they are just too slick for me. But I won't pay today's prices for one.

Well...

When you compare them to a Service Grade M1 Garand from the CMP...?

The 582 Series are worth every penny to me.

And the wood stocks - allow you to sling up and snap in tight.

Like a piece of industrial machinery.

:D

< 2 MOA bagged on the bench, a little over that from field positions - maybe 2.5.

I sure would like to have one if I thought I could make it shoot. Could live w/moa, but from what I hear that is a crapshoot w/odds runnin almost as high as the $$ a fellow can spend tryin.
