This is my favorite. 22 auto, but the popularity of the Buckmark is undeniable.
#1 Son has a SR22 that is a great trail, camp, plinker.

Nice classic Farmer. For years I have wanted a MK but thought about putting a scope on one. For many years I was in to 10mm Air Gun target shooting. Use to train for hours with this very crazy accurate 177. The gun would split hairs on a fly.

A MK or similar with a scope would seem like they would make a great squirrel gun rather than carrying a heavy rifle all day. And for for longer range target shooting.

I bought the SR22 back when they first came out. I used it for a "Trainer" for similar guns that I carry, just like I use the Phoenix HPA for training with a small barrel gun. The SR22 has always been extremely reliable. Great size for training. I really never like the way Ruger did the trigger or the Safety. That said, It is a fun gun to train with plink with.

One thing that has upset me a little is the fact that it keeps developing this as shown on the Picture below. I had it sent it in three times. But, have given up as it does not seem to effect the shooting. One thing about the Ruger SR22, it is kind of weird that it does not get dirty like other 22.cals. Have you noticed this on your Son's and does his have the same rail issue?

I have not seen it up close for a while, but no, I havent.
He suffers from ophidiophobia, and carries the sr22 in a fobus paddle when he mows, in case he sees a snake.

Just to be contrary, I owned a Ruger SR22 for a while and couldn't shoot it worth beans. It was a cute little pistol, and doubtless the lack of accuracy was my own fault, but after a few trips to the range I traded it in towards something else.

But, these of course IMO are just "Trainers" for small barrel shooting. Not meant to be long range bulls eye guns. Example, Picking up the gun from the table and hitting center mass as fast as possible, or drawing the gun and point and shoot to steel plates or even targets in the dirt etc. Just another tool. Just like I use a LCR22 to train with my center fire LCR and Smith.

I can't believe no one has recommended the Taurus TX22. Check the reviews, there are a ton of youtube reviews on it. It's trigger is one of the best. It's also been the most reliable 22 I have ever owned. 16rd mags and you can pick one up right now for well under $300 with the $50 rebate being offered through Sept. It's become my most fun 22 to shoot.

The Taurus TX22 hasn't been on the market that long, introduced at SHOT2019 last January, and lots of folks don't want to be beta testers. They'll wait until a new model has been around a while.
But..........it's a Taurus. (meaning quite a few remember class action settlements on a host of other Taurus pistols just a couple of years ago).

You are right Triplebike, have seen many great reviews. Went up to my local LGS to use the indoor range and they had one left. However the price was a very high for what I can buy if for online. The gun feels very good in the hand. not as big as it looks in Pictures. I was hoping to rent one but they did not have one for rental. Saw some on line for around $269.00 and with a $50.00 rebate, makes a great deal. I just want to shoot one first. I belong to a club where I have a lot of old friends that share guns. I should be able to find a member that has one next weekend. Plinker 22 gave it very good marks. (Like all of them I have seen). Will most likely get one before the rebate ends.

My wife has aWalther P22...good little gun, shoots well, very picky as to what it will eat. I have a Ruger SR22. Eats anything I feed it. Fairly accurate. Fun gun to plink and even to carry. I think it’s a great little gun. As a matter of fact I let my buddy shoot it at the range one day and he liked it so much he went out and bought one the next day.

I have another vote for the Taurus TX-22. I'm not a Taurus fan, but decided to try it based on the stellar reviews online. I took mine out of the box (no cleaning) and so far have put 1000 rounds through it consisting of everything from 20 year old garbage ammo to CCI stingers and Mini Maxes, Remington yellow jackets, Winchester Super X's, all kinds of Federal bulk, cheap Herter's bulk, etc.

I've had 3 failures: 1 failure to fire (dud round from what I can tell, it was struck, Federal bulk), 1 failure to chamber (Thunderbolt sub sonic, was expected, but cycled another 16 or so rounds fine), and 1 failure to eject, which was duplicated in 2 other pistols with the same box of ammo, so I think it was also an ammo thing.

I've been burned by lemons from Taurus so I'm definitely not a fan boy. However, 1k rounds out of the box with no cleaning, no real issues and completely acceptable accuracy for less than 3 bills? How can you go wrong?

if you want to smile and have fun shooting a .22LR semi-auto pistol with decent accuracy, my two suggestions are a German Sport Guns GSG-1911
+1.

I do not want a .22 autoloader for carry, home defense or hunting. What I want to do is punch paper at the range.

My wants...a decent trigger without long travel and clean break, even adjustable if that's possible but not a fancy/expensive target pistol.
If you like 1911 platform, I highly recommend GSG 1911 22LR (Same as Sig 1911 22LR).
when I said not "expensive" ... In my mind that meant not more than the mid $400s.
GSG 1911 is affordable at around $250 - https://www.classicfirearms.com/ati-gsg-1911-22lr-pistol-black-wood-gerg2210m1911ca/

So far for me, my GSG 1911 has fed and extracted reliably various cheap 22LR ammunition (even Federal Walmart red box) and consistently produces one ragged hole targets and popular with many shooters.

Here's my GSG 1911 next to railed Sig 1911
