1 inch steel plate has always been my favorite to shoot if it’s not an old car to see what kind of damage can be done.

API and AP do better job at tearing things up than ball.

The dent high left was from a 45-70 with “marlin” loads (that actually recoils harder than the 50 BMG).

You guys have some nice 50s.. If I purchased modern guns, I would love to have those. The gun designers over the past 10 years have worked wonders to make a plethora of cool 50 BMG models.. Thanks for sharing...

Hey I will ask this, I have seen a few companies selling commercial 50 BMG ammo that are hollow point.. Why should I desire a 50 BMG hollow point.. ???
Amour Piercing rounds.. Of Course, Tracer rounds.. You had me at hello.. But Hollow point???

Real nice photos.. I do so like metal damage shots :).. Modern cars are really not fun to shoot up any more. It does not take much to go though both sides. If you ever get the chance to see the Bonnie & Clyde car look over at the passenger side of the car, you will see that rounds did not go though but you can see the impact mounds. And those were 30-06 rounds and 35 Remington rounds there. They made cars out of metal back then.

Mine is an Armalite AR-50, 47lbs of ??. I think the 50bmg HP is more a target round trying to move the center of gravity on the bullet.
I agree about the recoil mine just pushes you back, the 45-70, 8mm, mosins, 30-06 or 12ga shotgun kicks more, but pressures are different. I wear plugs and muffs and after about 5 rnds my sinuses and eyes start bothering me.
We picked up a couple of engines from a shop for free and use those at 600 and 1200yrds. We don't shoot when it is very dry because we set up on the edge of a hay field.

Ohh many thanks for the Hollow point input.. Now that makes perfect sense.. Many thanks, no more tossing in my sleep tonight :)

Now I dislike criticizing guns because much like the dear departed on Planet of the Apes never finding another monkey he did not like..

It is hard for me to find a gun I do not like... But all of those commercial 50s could stand to use better bipods. The ones I see are to small with no spikes to dig into the ground. But that would add a fair amount of weight (Example before)

Even a sled would be nice

The bipod I had broke last time out, I purchased it in Ohio and thought it was heavy duty, it had replaceable feet rubber, spikes and little skids, I liked it but where the legs pivot cracked after 4 or 5 yrs

I have always wanted a 50 BMG rifle and even though a Barrett would be my first choice the price of the Armalite is more appealing. The AR-50 can be had for ~$3,000 while a comparable Barrett will probably run over $4,000.

BUT, over the past few years I have had a change of heart. Everything about the 50 is expensive while the 338 Papua is still expensive but nowhere near as bad as the 50.

Regardless, where I live the longest range I can shoot at is only just over 200 yards. Not nearly long enough for such rifles.

Great pictures guys, thanks for sharing.

Yeah if 1” plate steel isn’t going to stop it the sheetmetal won’t either. The “in” side is pretty boring, just holes.

The “out” side can get more interesting if other internal components are forced out along with the bullet. Notice how large the exit holes are in the middle of the door where the extra bracing is inside the door.

Hmmm I did not express myself very well... I really like holes.. exit holes are a turn on(Near fetish).. I was just reflecting on how easy almost any rifle round (and lots of pistol rounds will easily go though a modern car. I like putting holes in things..

The only real drawback to the 50BMG rifle, besides price, is the need for extreme safety precautions. Every 50 owner must be extremely careful. You must bear in mind the unholy penetration and damage that can occur on the other side of the target. Every incendiary bullet can cause fires that can destroy property. Very thick backstops are necessary. If it's not a safe shot...... don't take it.

Very true, it has been shown that it is still lethal at over 2000yrds and I've seen it go through a 12" tree but I enjoy seeing the face of people when I bring it out.
