So which gun would you want to go after Giant Ants with.

Giant spray gun loaded with RAID!!!
........ You beat me to it.. I also love Tommy Gunn's "tactical magnifying glass" suggestion. If Bug-A-Salt came out with a 127mm version it would probably be loaded with rock salt instead of table salt. Sort of like the difference between a load of "00 Buck" and a target load with #8 shot. This thread is hilarious and lots of fun. Keep 'em coming.

Howzabout a MK 19 grenade launcher? No hands on experience myself, just the 203, but I imagine that'd do a number on them as well. For a little more panache, perhaps an Oerlikon 20mm on a pintle mount in the back of a truck? Don't forget lots and lots and lots of ammo.

So was re watching the classic Movie THEM and pretty much there were 3 guns that were the most effective against the ants.

and flamethrowers

So assuming you were on the Bug hunt which of these fine weapons would you like to have???
I personally like the irony of the flamethrowers. Kind of like a kid with a magnifying glass on
a sunny day.. They just carried such limited fuel.

Just as a side note I think a few of those jeeps they used in the movie should have mounted crew served weapons like they did in "Day the Earth Stood Still". A few of those belt fed Brownings (No matter which caliber) would have made one heck of an ant mess. In this case the Tombstone drum would have allowed you to make several messes..

Seeing as this is 1954, I would say the "gun" I want would be Gun, Anti-Tank, 90mm, M36, preferably mounted in a Tank, Full Track, 90mm, M47.

Well seeing as how it’s science FICTION, I would use my .45-110 Sharps so that I wouldn’t have to get too close to those critters. I watched Quigley kill a bunch of bad guys from probably a half-mile away with his .45-110 Sharps.;)

Flamethrower.
Love 50's Sci Fi and THEM is one of my favorites with Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers and The Thing From Another World right up there with it.
Trivia time: Did you know that James Arness the FBI agent in THEM also was the alien in The Thing and is the brother of Peter Graves.

Plus he was in the US army and wounded in the Battle for Anzio. He had issues with his leg all the rest of his life.. Rewatch the movie when they are getting ready to Bazooka the ant hill you can tell he was not acting as he preparing the safety wire & plug on the rocket, looks like he had done that before. And he knew where the loader should be by the Bazooka.

If there is little warning and I have to grab what I got, I would opt for the .458 Winchester Magnum. I'd like to look at a entomology book with diagrams of the important bits.

If this is an 'anything' sort of game, I would want either a 3.5 inch rocket launcher or a large pile of LAAW rockets. But I'd still want the book on entomology.

Ahhh, the little known M30 Willie-Pete 3.5 in Bazooka rounds . . . Bet you thought that was just Hollywood.

I didn't know that and I consider myself pretty good at 50's through 70's TV and movie trivia. Thanks......going to watch it now.

Don't really know . Never had to shoot an ant. I have used Amdro and hot water works well.

Plainly some of you guys haven't watched enough old monster movies.

Incendiaries are where it's at. Flame throwers, phosphorus, napalm, even just gasoline if used correctly.

Bugs is bugs. Burn them things.

You know I had a thought

If you could breed Giant Ants....
And if you could move them to a private Island.....
And if you could prevent them from escaping and raising hell in the World at large...
And you could economically fly people to the Island...
And you picked up some really neat guns (cannons for you power nuts and flamethrowers for you firebugs)...
And (and this is the hard part) not have PETA shut you down..

one could open up one heck of a hunting vacation spot...

Now finally if ant meat is tasty you could sell to fancy Restaurants

I smell the business for the 21st century what could possible go rong

I hear these work well on giant Mexican scorpions, so they ought to work well on smaller American giant ants:

No Bull, just watched that Scorpion movie for the 1st time and Flipped out when I saw that gun.. Just researched it.. I like it .. I want it. The Mendoza m1934.. The name alone is to die for... I just wish the prop department in the Black Scorpion could have gotten them to work in full auto. They must have been loading it with 1 blank at a time.

But to argue with you that gun was crap against those Scorpions..

But the gun has a great back story.. 7mm to boot..
