Do you clean a gun before selling it?

  • Heck no. There's a reason I decided to sell it, I don't want to deal with it, and good riddance!

The guy that does not clean his guns will say, "this gun is a POS".

I clean my guns every time I shoot them, so yes, they will be clean if I trade/sell them.

Personally, I don't think it's that much of a chore. Once the gun is clear it doesn't take 100% concentration to clean it so I do mine while watching TV. Spread a bunch of old newspapers on the coffee table, sit on the floor and get to cleaning. Of course it involves a good bit of avoiding doggy attention when Dad's on the floor. He thinks that means it's time to play. Gotta get him to realize when I'm wearing latex gloves it means it's NOT time to play.

I detail clean every gun I sell.
Also, I will not buy a filthy gun. A filthy gun tells me the owner is/was lazy and probably didn’t take care of it.

I don't know. I haven't sold, traded or given away a gun in many many years. I know if i did i would wish i had it back. If i stop using it i just put it back. When i see them they bring back memories of the good old days. When you get old and rusty like me you need memories of The good old days.

I have bought probably 150 used guns in the past 10 years. Mostly in auctions. The vast majority of them were uncleaned, some bordering on filthy. Every one I have ever sold was cleaned before it went for sale.

-In my case I must say that it's very hard to go through a divorce without previously going through a marriage.
No, the main cause of my loss of firearms (and almost everything else, repeatedly) was OTHER family members.

I've seen enough used dirty guns in my time. I've found out the hard way that in most cases there's a reason why they are dirty. Whenever I've sent one down the river, I do my best to get it looking as good as I can.

As I have posted, mine stay pretty clean. I am selling two this AM (Helping to pay off a recent rifles/scopes purchase) and all I did was wipe them down with a rag with some Rig grease on/in it.

After every use, all of my firearms are cleaned! Any of them that dont get a regular range trip get pulled out of the safe and get a wipe down and a quick check over every few months. So if I sell its already clean.
A simple reason! PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP! I love my firearms and I want them to look good as well as shoot well.
