Actually they WERE for shooting around corners: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krummlauf

While some were made for tankers, the majority were of the Infantry model.
2 different versions of the Krummlauf were made.

One had a 30 degrees bend to the barrel, and was for infantry use. The other had a much more severe 90 degrees bend, and was intended for mounting in armored vehicles. The vehicle model was designed so the rifle could sit in a vertical position, which would take up little space. The curved barrel went through a port in the vehicle's armor and could be turned around. The weapon would give the crew a way to shoot at enemies trying to approach the vehicle with explosives or firebombs

The infantry model's barrel was a total of 14 inches long, with a 4 inch straight barrel, then a 5.5 inch curved section, and then another 4.5 inches of straight barrel. It included a large mirror to allow a soldier using it to see where the gun was pointing while maintaining a standard hold and cheek weld. A front sight was mounted on the end of the Krummlauf, and a rear sight was placed just behind the mirror.

Mostly for tanks they supported each other and just hosed the others clean with MG fire. As armored vehicles became more scarce for the Germans these came more into play. Depending on what they were trying to hit (how close) and what vehicle they were in tankers could often just use the standard version.

Unless you're a "spook" a poacher or a "hitman" what is more useless than suppressor?

My 22 can is one of the best investments I ever made because it allows me to shoot off the porch without alerting the neighbors.

ya know, for every person that likes and finds something useful there's gonna be 10 that don't and vice versa.....
Actually, I like pretty much everything posted in this thread for one reason or other..... amusement if nothing else... amusement is worth a lot to me.
The tank washer, well that's not useful...I don't have a tank yet.

here's one I find useless, iron sights on a rifle....just don't shoot them well enough. They sure do look right tho.

Most collectors don’t have a tank either. They just collect them.

However it does have an original purpose, it’s just the collectors aren’t usually using it for that purpose.

Except for maybe a few test shots.

Try to fit a 50mm scope on a rifle using see-throughs. Also, if you have a bore sighter push down on the see-through with the thumb. See what happens. Useless as a sidesaddle for a pig. Yes, YMMV.
I meant the thumbhole stock. See through sights are definitely a poor idea.

Nothing is worse than the look of disgust and disappointment you get from a dog when you miss a shot. Especially for upland game after the dog does it's job well.
I've gotten that look in the field and in the duck blind. The good thing is dogs forgive and forget as soon as you shoot another bird.
The situation I mentioned was with 4 or 5 people in our dog training group.
You're right though, I'd rather take some ribbing from friends than deny my dog a bird.

Preventing further tinnitus, helping prevent hearing damage from ever occurring in new shooters, not waking neighbors when coyote or hog hunting after dark, not destroying my own hearing if I ever need to use a HD weapon inside my own home, not bothering neighbors when target shooting..... should I go on?

IR lasers are very useful when paired with good quality night vision.

IR lasers for military or police is a different story. I guess civilians could use them but I don’t believe that’s happening enough to have any relevance.

I used to know a dog that would have an existential crisis over our inability to kill something, anything when we set off fireworks on the fourth.

On topic I'll throw underbarrel flare launchers under the bus.

I'm sure that there is someone who thinks that they are worth their weight in gold, and if you handed me one and asked if I wanted to play with it I would hope that you had the fire department on speed dial. But I'm not about to put one on anything that I would have to take traipsing through the woods.

I agree with that. Back in the service, no one in my section wanted the 203 because it was so awkward to carry and shoot. Mind you, it was peacetime, so our motivation was different than the kids carrying them now, but they're just clumsy range toys in my opinion.

How are civilians supposed to train with IR lasers unless they have them? The whole idea of the 2A is to protect the right of civilians to own and train with military arms, which would include IR lasers.

I never said civilians shouldn’t have access to them. You aren’t tracking.
