August-September 2019 most popular LEO autoloader 10 shot challenge

Thanks, I will hopefully be able to hit the range in a day or two and post up a couple of targets. With any luck the range won’t be packed and I can post targets for Class 1, 2, and 5.

Might be an interesting contrast demonstrating what a duty optic on a pistol does for practical accuracy potential. I just got back from vacation, and went to see my old pistol team coach. He’s 78 now, and anything less than bright light gives him fits picking up daylight around his front sight. On a partly cloudy day we decided to shoot a timed fire bullseye match on 50ft small bore pistol targets at 40 yards (because we hate ourselves), with our Benelli match pistols. I could watch in real time through bino’s as his sight picture fell apart as clouds dimmed his sight picture.

He told me what was happening and after we got done I asked him to shoot my ACRO P-1 equipped VP9 long slide, I gave him a basic run down of how to stay target focused and just plop the dot on his desired point of impact. He shot in the same deteriorating lighting conditions, and promptly demonstrated what an NRA High Master Bullseye shooter can do when he can get a good sight picture. Immediate performance improvement on target, and it wasn’t subtle.

Why not Glock 26 and 27?

I think some LEOs carry these smaller Glocks -- at least higher ranking officers (e.g. Lieutenants, Captains).

I realize with the shorter barrels one would be at a disadvantage, but still....

looks like I might need to try some different ammo for longer ranges, this was underwhelming.....

I've found that actually shooting groups for score on your hind legs is a humbling experience more often than not. These contests are fun.

I had pinned a tall front sight on a few years ago for suppressor use. And then I found a cheap surplus slide assembly, so I can shoot it both ways. Here are the adjustable sight scores.

Dang good shooting
Thanks!

The 15-yd. targets are coming together. But it still tends to fall apart a bit at 25.

I like these challenges. For one who mostly does the run ‘n gun matches, it’s probably good for me to slow down and focus on fundamentals once in a while.

So I never really jumped on the .357 Sig bandwagon. I bought a used .40 conversion bolt and barrel some years ago for a carbine, and they came with a .357 Sig barrel as well. The .40 runs great, once I got mags sorted out. But the .357 would nose dive, pushing bullets back into the case. I put it in my box ‘o parts and got on with life.

So I’ve had some left over .357 Sig ammo from that, and have been kicking around the idea for years of getting a Glock conversion barrel. I guess I’m easily influenced, as this challenge was enough to nudge me over the edge.

I ended up going cheap. I found some Bear Creek Arsenal barrels for $45. Call me skeptical, but for that price I didn’t have much to lose. And at that, I took a chance and bought one for both the Glock 22 & 23 (G31 & 32, I think).

I have only shot the one in the G22 so far. Surprise of the day, this thing shoots like a laser! By far the best I’ve shot with any of these guns, and that’s in spite of the squishy Glock trigger.

If the G23-sized barrel shoots this well, I may end up switching out my carry gun caliber, once it’s broken in and proven reliable.

More on the barrels:

I thought I heard a rumor BCA is going out of business. Anyone know if this is true? It might explain the blowout pricing. Or it’s entirely possible I’m thinking of someone else.

BCA only lists threaded Glock barrels in .357 Sig. I would have preferred unthreaded for this caliber. I have a number of threaded Glock barrels to shoot suppressed. But I typically shoot subsonics suppressed, and the whole point of the .357 Sig is to get more velocity. I don’t think .357 Sig subsonic would do anything a 9mm sub wouldn’t, except to cost more.

The barrels showed up in nothing but some foam wrap in a padded shipping envelope. But for $45, I can’t complain. I’m going to have to come up with a little storage container for them. Maybe one of those little parts boxes with the moveable sections to make different sized compartments. Hmmm.

As I said I struggle with drive the dot sighting for target shooting sight image 3 as seen in this photo. A different target like a bigger rapid fire target might help but the won't print right for these challenges for those that use printable targets. I like to use sight image 1 for target shooting. Actually for this target I used sight image two, 6 o clock on the orange. At 25 yards though seeing the orange is too difficult for me.

A clear difference in my groups can be seen here with my P220

Got this P226 last month have 150 rounds through it so far. It was used so I don't know how many rounds were put through it prior but it is in good shape. I may enter a 25 yard target later if I can get better lol. This target submission is the best I have done with it at 15 yards

Same here. I've shot like 4 targets with my P226 and I'm too embarrassed to post them. I mostly shoot steel plates while lumbering around.

Some attempts. I've shot better groups with most of these but couldn't pull it off today. I shot a tennis ball sized group with the Beretta on a B8 yesterday trying to figure out where it hits (very low) but that doesn't count of course. :D

Taking a break from wife's retirement projects this afternoon (She surprised me with 2 feral kittens and I have been spending time to bond with them this week).

Now that I have new progressive glasses, will do some 15/25 yard shooting with G22/G23 ... debating to load IMR Target or Sport Pistol/N320, N340/BE-86.

You are doing better than me with all of them overall. I take it these are just for show and not your official submissions or are they official entries?

Update: For those curious, my journey to identifying "most accurate" (1KPerDay, sound familiar? :D) match load development for the August-September 2019 most popular LEO autoloader 10 shot challenge with shot group comparison range tests - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...endence-from-work.853305/page-3#post-11195171

Sig Sauer P226 Elite SAO. The top hit in the 8 ring looks like two, which makes this 11 rounds. I loaded 10 rounds each time, shot until the slide locked back. My ammo box was always aligned in perfect rows of five, so I don't know. Your call. The sig at 25 yds didn't do so well. Threw those away.

Anybody have a free photo host to recommend?, photobucket and imageshack have cut me off saying over the limit. They are probably just horrified at all the guns being shown lol.

I've been using IMGUR, no problems after a year & a half (or however long it's been since photobucket played their game)

imgur it is will give it a try, really liked imageshack was easy to use but the trial is over. Maybe....maybe I'll pay their fee gonna ponder it.

I would never give Photobucket a dime after what they pulled. I was a huge fan and recommended them to everyone for years. Still have hundreds of images there but I can't link to them or use them. They can pound sand.

I use IMGUR now, or upload files directly to the forums where allowed (like here).
