All I know is after the results of the bump stock ban and Trump's comments about silencers and now this

I'm glad I didn't pile money into building a suppressed .300 BLK pistol this year, the way the bump stock ban went I could have lost a pile in government confiscation.

A pump 20 gauge works fine for the bedroom gun anyway.

Seems like the real problem is mental.
Actually, the problem is social. The generation coming up is anti-social, secluded, and largely ignored. They are not taught how to deal with their emotions, how to assume responsibility, or how to interact with more than a screen. They are considered a burden to push aside by the generation before them. They are taught that their own feelings, not facts, are what truly matter. They have true angst, but no one will listen to them, and they were never shown how to deal with it on their own, so they solve problems by bullying online, acting out their video game scenarios, and seeking internet fame as the only attention they can achieve.

I'm not saying that a bump stock is a machine gun. It's the ATF and the Trump administration that are saying that bump stocks are machine guns. Likewise, they could easily say that pistol braces make pistols into SBR's. No legislation needed, just a change in regulations.

You said that bump stocks are "The rationale in banning bump stocks was that they were machine guns, and the Hughes Amendment precluded any new registrations of machine guns. The rationale in banning bump stocks was that they were machine guns, and the Hughes Amendment precluded any new registrations of machine guns."

Bringing up that point made me think that YOU equated it to being a "machine gun"

And you know I really don't have an issue with it......it has been brought up that people don't like things that are legal to be made illegal.....there are lots of things like that.

Personally I have no use for "machine guns".....I had my fill of that stuff 30 years ago....I was going to say 20, but I keep forgetting how old I am.

You are correct. I believe young men get the worst of being ignored by society.

For the last couple of decades school and society have focused exclusively on helping young women with STEM classes and careers. The people pusjing for this have not only totally ignored young men (many young men have zero desire to be in school as it is) but outright mock the idea of helping toung men at all in some weird social justice punishment of patriarchy.

Schools and society have alienated young men from Chicago to El Paso and sadly have no desire to change anything

And what would that Root cause be ?

This may get long....and it was toughed on by a few others......but it is both a mental health issue as well as a social issue.

Things went to hell in a hand basket when law enforcement has become the first contact for crazy. The mental health system in this country is a mess. 90% of these folks you get someone come out later and say....ya he was in treatment for his anger issues.....he was working through problems.....and in some cases someone else that knew this guy buys him the gun....well it will make him happy.....really.....are you that stupid.

Then it comes to what is going on in this country.....and it is a mess, there are entire segments of the population that fuel their.....forward motion I guess I will say.....with hate antifa....fear...climate change.....and are putting people down based on their race....white.....you tear at people for years and then you are shocked they snap....well duh.

I re-wrote this about 10 times to try to calm it down.....I hope the drift came across but I am not sure.

You are right.....but I would say young WHITE men.

and you know how that sounds.

Social, emotional, mental really I am not seeing a difference, when the end is the same.

The amusing thing is what happens after the executive order is passed down. Do the opponents of the executive take this executive order to court to get it struck down - and try to bring back bump stocks or arm braces - or do they accept the anti-gun victory?
Decisions, decisions... .

True, but schools do nothing to encourage young men of color either.

At most they just want bodies in a seat for funding. At worst young minority kids feel like their only choice is gang life and violence

Well
That’s an interesting thought, here’s another- who raises the children these days while mom and dad are both at work trying to pay bills and keep up with the Jones?
I chose a single income household and my wife worked hard getting all the kids through school and on the honor roll in fact one made the National honor society.
Maybe I just got lucky being able to instill morals into my children.

OK, what are we going to do about this? Is it possible to disqualify people who are likely to become mass murderers from owning guns? Without trampling on the rights of the general public?

It seems to me that most of the recent mass shooters have several things in common: young white males in their early 20's, no steady jobs, social misfits, a history of resentments. Perhaps a system can be devised so that guns don't go to people under 25 unless they can show a successful work history, military service, or educational attainment? I'm just spitballing here.

Preventing dangerous people from getting guns is a preventive measure to protect our own right to have them. We have been too lax in self-policing, and that has brought us to the point where we now find ourselves.

Only if you willingly fave it up! Geez, if we start with this defeatist crap we might as well just go ahead and turn everything in.

The arm brace thing is not going to last. It may end very soon, it may not end until the next Democratic presidency. But it can be ended with a single agency decision, and there is no more than about a 5% chance of defeating that action in court.

To be completely clear, I think that arm braces are a stupid thing for people to be afraid of or want to ban. But I also think the same thing about SBR's in general... yet the NFA is the law. Sometimes the law is stupid.
Agreed, I was shocked when the BATF allowed them and now allows them to be shouldered. It's a clear cut way around existing laws and so I will not be surprised when they go under scrutiny and are sacrificed.

Yep.

YES...sadly it is a mental health problem. It's a total lack of respect for human life....a lack of a heart or soul.

It's an affliction of a whole generation.

The big question is how do we fix it?
Yep, but unfortunately too many focus on the gun because it fits their agenda of disarmament of the people. They are not really interested in fixing the real problem, which of course is hard to get people to agree on.

Only if you willingly fave it up! Geez, if we start with this defeatist crap we might as well just go ahead and turn everything in.

Well it'd be pretty darned easy to figure out if I had a suppressor, which is the expensive part.

And yes, I am a law abiding citizen. I have family and young children, I ain't going out in a blaze of glory when they need me.

Geez, if we start with this defeatist crap we might as well just go ahead and turn everything in.
It's not defeatism -- it's called "tactical flexibility."

The Italian novelist Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa summarized enlightened conservatism with the sentiment, "Things must change so that things can remain the same." The gun scene must change radically if we are to have it at all. Lots of problematic would-be gun owners have to be weeded out, for our own self-protection.
