How reliable do you think the first generation of XD pistols are in 9mm ? I have had 3 and all have worked great. Sold some and thinking of another. I see that their resale value is almost nothing. I tried to sell one recently but it was the newer MOD 2 in 45ACP that was new in box and was only lucky enough to trade it for the S&W MP45 that I wanted. Even the newer Mod 2's are hard to sell. There seems to be no wants for them. Mine have all worked well. How were your experiences ? Reliable or not ? What caliber ? I think they are reliable in my experiences but just have no resale value.

Great pistols at a great bargain price new. You can’t expect to get all that much selling a used one when you can regularly get a new one with 5 mags for under $400.

I am rather partial to the original XD. I have all three sizes in 40S&W. The XD-Tactical (top) has nearly 40,000 rds though it at this point. Originally bought in 2005.

I had 5 at one time. I gave a Mod 2 45 acp. to my son-in-law.
All of my XD's have Powder River triggers in them. Best thing you can do for a XD.

Highly underrated pistols. I just bought a new XDM 45 Competition for $575 delivered.

Another overlooked pistol is the Canik TP9 series. Better triggers than the XD pistols.

I abused a modified first gen .45 Tac with near Rowland class loads and its still clicking along fine for it's new owner.
It felt good in my hand, and really the only reason I sold it was I shoot my SBH .44mag considerably better than I do an autoloader yet.
230s at 1250 and it gets a little squirly comp or no.

Had an HS2000 WAYYY back in the day. That was truly a bargain pistol.
Had an XD45C and a MOD2 45 Compact.

All eventually got sold off. Never really anything wrong with them, I just sort of gravitated back towards DA/SA and the only strikers I kept were Glocks.

Issues that I remember
HS2000 - early ones had an extractor that didn't like WWB ammo. Replaced extractor with updated one..............along with the spring.........that I fired across the garage..........into NARNIA. Issues fixed. :( PRO TIP KIDS - DO THIS STUFF INSIDE A GALLON PLASTIC BAG, KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE.

XD45C - Got some crud build up fairly quickly under the extractor that caused me some headache until I cleaned it out. Stock mag springs were a little on the soft side, never any issues but felt a little soft.

MOD2 45 Subcompact - Didn't like steel cased stuff, but hey neither do I so... Also under recoil I would sometimes bump the slide lock. That was user error but something to keep in mind.

All in all they were perfectly adequate guns. Accurate enough and I never had any majore breakages but I don't run my guns super hard or anything. They all felt great in my medium/smaller hands.

I have a XDm 3.8 Compact chambered in .40 S&W. I wish I had gone with 9mm instead of .40 S&W. To me it's basically an improved Glock.

Likes:
It has run flawlessly with ANY ammo I've put through it including aluminum case and hollow points. Zero malfunctions EVER.
I like the grip safety, it adds one more layer of comfort while handling and re-holstering with a round in the chamber.
I really like not having to discharge the striker to field strip the pistol. (I believe this feature only applies to XDm)
I like the polished magazines, they drop free every single time without any assistance.
Best striker fired trigger I've personally fired.
I like the loaded chamber indicator and the cocked striker indicator. Both are tactile so you can check both without looking.
Rugged, dependable.

Dislikes:
The grip is about 1/2 inch too short. Yes there is an extended magazine with a sleeve/boot that matches the grip but because the grip is so short, when you slam the extended mag with the grip boot on it home you run the risk of severely pinching your palm. The first time I did this it took all my safety training and willpower to not throw the gun on the ground and pee my pants.
This pistol chambered in .40 S&W is a bit snappy. The pistol wants to torque or roll sideways.
The grip is a tad too short. Yeah, I said that twice because the grip is too short. At the time I bought the pistol I bought into the notion that you need a short grip for concealed carry.
Maybe a tad heavy when compared to the competition.

Great pistols. No resale value. Yep. Exactly my experience.

They have no resale value because A.) They're not expensive guns to begin with (as cowbell already noted) and B.) I truly believe the politically induced boycott of Springfield Armory is having an effect, which is also why they are comparatively cheap guns.

I have two right now, an XDE 9mm., and a XD subcompact that I just got 2 weeks ago. I went with instead of the mod2 because of the only difference is cosmetic, rounded trigger guard, grip texture, just three dot sights not fiber optic. I called them and that's what I was told. The trigger is the same as well as the rest of the gun. I love the gun, it's so right on in accuracy that it makes me look good. My XDE is really good also. The xd sub. was so much less than the Mod 2 that it made no sense to go that way outside of not getting the extra mags and other crap which I don't need or want. Just ordered a 16 rd mag and a Pierce extension. I'm happy. Had an XDS but hated it, now they're really pushing that gun everywhere.

I know this is anecdotal evidence, but one of my LGS' can't move Springfield's guns and another has all their SA's on sale at prices below their costs. I haven't seen this from any other manufacturer. I know there are a lot of people who won't consider them because of what they did.

I have several of them and all have been flawless performers. Mine shoot as accurate as any of my SIGs or HKs for a lot less money. The Defender line is a great value currently if you want a decent gun for not a lot a of money and add accessories as you need/can afford them. The little XD sub-compact 9mm is my current airline/travel gun, can't have the airlines "loosing" my 1911s ,BHPs or P7s. The last one I purchased was 271.99 brand new.

Earlier models of 45XDs had straight center rib in the slide that did not push the top round in the magazine deep enough for extracting case rim to clear the SWC shoulders.

This problem was fixed by XDm line - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/swc-for-semi-automatics.516267/#post-6415736

Perhaps this may explain devaluing of 45XDs but can't speak to 9mm/40S&W models.

I still see and people complain about XD's grip safety chafing their palm web and irritating to red color ...

I have one original XD45 compact. I bought it when I lived in NJ when 15 rounds were OK. Potential to be a 10-round carry gun (out of state) and good for home defense (13 rounds). A bit on the heavy and thick side, but reliable and worth keeping. As to resale value, I think while it has good support from SA and a large aftermarket for parts and accessories, it's not quite as large as brand G. And so it is not for sale but I probably am not in the market for another. And as others have said, you can get good other, brand new guns for not a lot of money these days.

I owned a HS2000 .. Ran like a Cadillac on nitrous...

I now own a XD9SC ... Runs as good

Geeze... it seems like I didn't pay much more than $350 for my new XD mod 2 compact in .45 a couple years ago with all the extra Springfield accessories. I didn't really want or need one but it was too good of a deal to pass up. It is my favorite plastic pistol now. Great hiking / woods gun with the full size mag.

When they are/were so cheap new on sale it is going to be hard to get much for them used. In Oregon my local FFL's charge $50 for private party transfers... so take $50 off the $350 sale price and then go down from there because it is used.

I paid $300 for my used XDs 3.3 in .45 a few years back.

That is absolutely outrageous. A transfer w/ NICS check in Alaska is half that, less in some shops.

Yep, completely ridiculous! I haven't been in a LGS since I did my first private party transfer through one (I called around to all of them and they had all set their prices at $50). I am not giving them my business. A local gun club does transfers for free on Saturdays... so only a $10 nics fee if you are a member.
