Had the HP out last week and shot 100 rounds. A couple days later while in a gun shop I was given a small sample pack of Flitz. Since the Highway Patrolman was dirty, I decided it would be my testbed for the polish. Cleaned the gun then applied Flitz. It turned out pretty good. I was messing with different lighting in some photos. I'll have to get more Flitz

Flitz is a great product.

Use on:
Brass, Copper, Silverplate, Sterling Silver, Chrome, Stainless Steel, Nickel, Bronze, Solid Gold, Aluminum, Annodized Aluminum, Beryllium, Magnesium, Platinum, Pewter, Factory Hot Gun Bluing, Painted Surfaces, Formica®, Cultured Marble, Corian®, Glass, Plexiglas®, Plastics, Fiberglass, Eisenglass, and Armatel®

So please tell me what exactly Flitz is? Is it a general purpose gun polisher that'll work on a wide range of metal finishes?

It's a fine polishing compound. A little bit on an old T shirt scrap can shine up a old stainless steel gun to a mirror polish.

Green Scotchbrite pads work well for a more dull, matte "duty" type finish.

Flitz isn't specifically for guns, it's very similar to Mother's Mag Polish. You can use it on anything from your wheels on your car, polishing up an old knife, putting a shine on a prized belt buckle....

Flitz isn't an abrasive, so it should work very well on most all gun surfaces. Flitz does say that factory hot blued guns shouldn’t have an issue, but using it on cold blued, touched up guns or Cerakote or painted finishes aren’t recommended because Flitz can remove them.

Stay safe.

Beautiful...enjoy it! I had a 4" 28 back in the day...sold it. The story of my life.

You can actually use FLITZ on a revolver & make it look like it has never been fired if it isn't to far gone to begin with.
I hold the revelation of it's ability & use in a warm & heartbreaking memory.
A very - very good lifelong friend of mine met me at a gas station back 3 years ago in September I had just bought another
Model 19 S&W & told him about it, he opened his coat & [without taking it out] showed me he had a Model 19 S&W in 4"
that looked magnificent once we got inside his truck. I asked him about how he got such a beauty in that condition.
He told me = Just use FLITZ, I have extra & I will bring some by for you.
He died about an hour later of a heart attack.

That is a beautiful HP. It looks much better than mine.

I picked it up in a local gun shop about 3 years ago. Made in late 1955. Whoever owned before me took pretty good care of it. There is some wear on the spots you would expect of a gun that was carried some. Previous owned had the sights dialed right in too, and I haven't had to adjust them. One friend calls it " The gun you can't miss with. "

their FAQ
Can Flitz be used on Gun Bluing?
As long as the gun has been blued during manufacturing, or hot-blued. This type of bluing is actually made part of the metal. Flitz will clean and protect the barrel inside and out without any oily film or danger to the inside of the barrel.
If the gun has been cold-blued, then the bluing has been painted on. Flitz will treat this like graffiti and clean it off of the surface of the barrel.Check with a qualified gunsmith to be sure.

All comes down to your choice. Read the owners manual on cleaning the gun.
