Couldn’t resist this Officers Model Target .38 Spl from 1949. If it’s anything like the other OM’s I’ve owned, it will be super accurate with a HBWC loaded around 750fps. These old Colts are amazing. This one has a little honest blue wear, but it’s 70 years old! Hope I look that good at 70. Action is slick, timing is perfect and locks up like a bank vault. Can’t wait to punch some paper.

I seriously am beginning to think your some sort of oil tycoon hell bent on taking every collectable revolver away so that we the peasants can't have any... Seriously though that's a fine acquisition hope for a range report soon.

Between Eddie, Driftwood, and Mr.Pliskin..........its a wonder there are any good ones left!

Nice find, it's a matter of being at the rigjt place at the right time and have the extra bucks to lay down.

I'm far from an Oil Tycoon. There is no way I could afford to keep all the guns I find. I do a lot of trading, buying and selling. I enjoy the hunt for nice guns almost as much owning and shooting them. New guns I find usually find their way to several collectors I know in exchange for nice guns that I can shoot without feeling guilty. I do have an obsession with 3" K Frames and 8 3/8" S&W's and rarely let one of those go. A lot of guns I get I will shoot for a while and then pass on to someone so they can enjoy them as much as I have and it frees up cash so I can hunt some more. I'm worse with my gun shopping than a rich woman that loves shoes! I travel a good bit so I am constantly hitting all the gun shops and pawn shops across the state as well as looking for deals on the auction sites. Lately with the market being soft, I've run across some really good deals that I just couldn't pass up. One of my favorite pass times is to go to a range with several older Revolvers and watch the young plastic gun lovers nudge each other and point to the old man with the old guns. More often than not, when they see how accurate the "old revolvers" are, I'll get one or two interested. Lovers of old Revolvers like me are a dying breed and I love to bring a new shooter into the group. I have maybe 8-10 young guys that I've got interested in the older guns that call me from time to time and tell me about the S&W or Colt they found. I was planning my schedule for tomorrow and already have 3 different places that I plan on hitting just to see what is available. You never know what you might find! You will never find nice guns unless you look.

Beautiful revolver in the classic dualtone finish with it's "Coltwood" stocks. They only made them in that configuration for about 3-4 years. Congratulations. I'd bet a bunch that it will be a tack driver.

I am surprised this gun has plastic grips on it, although they may be the original factory grips. Colt used plastic grips on most guns for a while after World War 2, as I understand it. Am I correct in assuming that any grips that will fit a Python will fit this gun, or is that another thing I have gotten mixed up over the years?

I don't mean that as criticism. That's a beautiful gun, and should shoot as well as it looks. It's just that I, personally, would shoot it better with different grips.

PS - if those are the original grips, and they are still on the gun after 70 years, that is a good sign that the gun has not been messed with.

I've checked with several very knowledgeable Colt guys and they say they are original. Most of the Officers Targets came with Walnut but some did leave the factory with the plastic. They actually feel pretty good. Python Grips will fit this gun, so there are a lot of options if I want different ones for shooters. I have several sets of rubber, at least one set of Altamonts, so I'm good for the range.
