Thank you for contacting me regarding the recent tragedies in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas. I appreciate the opportunity to respond. Tragedies like these are devastating, not only to the communities and loved ones impacted, but also to families across the nation as we grieve with them and keep them in our prayers.

The safety of our families is always my top priority, and I am a proud supporter of the Constitution, the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding citizens. As we work to move forward, I am committed to reviewing proposals that work to keep Americans safe. As Governor of Florida, I worked to increase safety measures in Florida’s schools through the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. We also passed a “red flag” law in the state of Florida, commonly referred to as an Emergency Risk Protection Order (ERPO). When properly constructed, red flag laws are a common sense measure to keep weapons out of the hands of any person who threatens to harm themselves or others, or who is mentally unstable.

As United States Senator, I remain focused on making sure that our schools and communities are safe, and that those struggling with mental health issues or threatening harm to themselves or others cannot use a weapon. I am currently working with my colleagues to pass the EAGLES Act (S. 495), which provides law enforcement more resources to prevent tragedies and improves school safety for students and teachers. I am also a cosponsor of the Threat Assessment, Prevention, and Safety (TAPS) Act (S. 265), which will create a task force of experts to provide recommendations for a national strategy to keep communities safe from targeted violence.

Again, thank you for your correspondence. I am proud to represent every citizen in Florida and I appreciate the time you took to provide your position on this matter. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

I have as yet not heard from my other Senator Marco Rubio nor from House Rep. Crist.
I doubt I will hear from either.

And my House Rep Charlie Crist replied.

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for gun violence prevention. I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts, and welcome the opportunity to respond.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is an important part of the Bill of Rights. While I strongly support the Bill of Rights, I firmly believe there are common-sense policies that we can and should adopt to prevent horrific gun violence like the tragedies in Las Vegas and Orlando. Instituting universal background checks, reinstating the ban on assault weapons, banning bump-fire stocks that simulate automatic weapons, restricting ammunition magazine capacity, and closing the private sale loophole would go a long way to prevent gun related tragedies such as suicides, accidents, domestic violence, and terrorism.

Every day that Congress refuses to act, more Americans die from gun violence. I will continue fighting to save lives and keep our families safe by pressing for common sense gun safety legislation. Recently, I was proud to join a bipartisan majority of my colleagues voting in support of H.R.8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and H.R.1112, Enhanced Background Checks Act. These historic bills would strengthen the background check systems by closing the gun show loophole and the loophole that allowed the Charleston, SC shooter purchase a gun before his background check came back stating he was ineligible for a firearm. Together, they represent the first actions by Congress in a generation on commonsense, gun violence prevention. Finally, I will continue to fight for greater access to mental healthcare. More than 60 percent of gun deaths in this country are from suicide. By working to identify unmet mental health needs sooner, we will prevent more people from harming themselves and others. There is no single or easy solution to America's tragic gun violence epidemic. But it is long past time that we take these steps.

Thank you again for reaching out. Please keep me informed of the issues important to you and your family, your input helps me to better serve you. To stay up to date on my work in Washington and Pinellas, please visit crist.house.gov to sign up for my e-newsletter.

When Crist ran for governor he did a photo op at WAC and addressed the members about how pro gun he WAS.

TTAG has an article regarding the impact stricter gun laws have had on reducing violence here in Chicago. Predictably, they do nothing as criminals don't follow the law. The only thing is does is makes being a legal gun owner more difficult and expensive. The area where almost all the shootings occured last weekend are low income areas, and the additional expense involved in owning guns makes it too expensive for people in those areas.

I wonder where he gets his data from, since there is SO MUCH data out there that refutes his claims that any/all of these measures would have any discernible impact on violence.

Crist went from R to I to D - ANYTHING to get elected. He was a poster boy for the ultra liberal ambulance chasing law firm of Morgan and Morgan. I would not believe anything he has to say on any subject. He has no convictions, just positions that sway with the current political breeze

He really hosed Florida when he was Governor.

So we can assume he's an Anti?

Perhaps a response with a link to the UCR and pointing out that absolutely nothing he's cited will make a difference. Ask him to look at improving NICS, putting penalties for fed money going to states that don't improve their reporting to NICS, making mental health programs in schools and for the public readily available so all angry young men, gangbangers to mass murderers, have some way other than to follow their demons.

Just "Boiler Plate" responses
None of them give a rats ass about what gun owners think or want. All the care about is they "must pass something" to make it look like they are doing something" Which of course, will not do anything but hurt lawful gun owners rights.

Do they actually think (yes they do) that any amount of "sensible, meaningful" gun laws would have prevented the CRIMINAL in Philadelphia with an extensive record from obtaining a gun, ammo and using it!????

Another reply from Sen Scott

Thank you for contacting me regarding gun sales and ownership in America. I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding citizens. Ensuring the safety of families is always my top priority. I believe lawmakers must be very careful to balance our individual rights with our need for public safety. I’m going to do what I can to secure those individual rights and make sure guns are not in the hands of the wrong people.

Again, thank you for your correspondence. I look forward to representing every citizen in Florida and I appreciate the time you took to provide your position on this matter. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Yes I do have questions; first will you vote NAY on all further restrictions on law abiding gun owners and second will you vote to keep violent offenders in prison?
