Just got back from the fairgrounds in Orlando where they had a gun show. I haven't been to a show in quite a while and was surprised. It was a large show with a lot to look at and there were surprisingly some pretty good deals. There were crazy high prices also but decent prices on most guns. A lot of AR15's and parts for them and a lot of pistols but not many hunting guns. The sellers bring what sells. Had a good morning, what more can you ask for?

I have always liked the Orlando show. You know so much of if a show is good/bad depends on what you are looking for. They are more newer guns then older, but there are a few dealers that bring in the old stuff.

A killer for me is that they made that rule change at the Fairgrounds you can not sell walk in guns amongst yourself. Do not know what would happen if they caught you breaking that rule. It is just a Fairground rule.. Does it have any weight in law.??

What were you looking for??

Nothing in particular, just wanted to go to a gun show and see if anything jumped up and said " Buy me!". Haven't been to a show in a long time and it beat setting in the house watching the nonsense on television. There were quite few older rifles and old pistols and some milsurps also. I've been looking at a S&W 442 and there was a dealer selling them for $329 new, should have bought one but I just spent a bunch of money on an AR. There will be another show, maybe that deal will be available then.

Last time I went to that one, the parking and admission fees would have put me almost $25 in the hole to start, let alone the gas.
Now up in north Florida, I haven't found a decent show yet.

Been to two different ones in North Ga. Nothing to write home about. Alot of over priced AKs. Bunch of decent priced ARs. Always went just to take the kids. When I find something I like I checked LGS website found it cheaper. So bought from them.

Now that I have my concealed carry license renewed I'm going to next Tampa show, see if I can get a new Cugir Romanian WASR-10 if I don't find one local or off gun broker first. I heard the new WASR is of good quality. I use to go to Orlando for a show, last one I went to there is 10 years ago but being a 2 hour drive I just got tired of that when most of what I want can be found local or on the net.

Ten years ago when milsurp was abound that I could hand pick I hit the shows more often, like when a Mosin was $125 or so out the door , but these days it's slim picking for milsurps though you can still find some at a show.

Suncoast Gunshows is owned by the same fella who owns Shoot Straight. I refuse to patronize either of his business ever since he clipped me with his stupid Segway scooter at a show and didnt stop to apologize.
His shows seem mostly dominated by large dealers selling new guns at the same $ you get in store, with a few small tables here and there.
There are many other disturbing stories about this guy. Google it if you want.

There is another regional group, Two Guys Gunshows, which puts on much better shows, IMO, with many more private seller and Mom/Pop tables. I highly recommend driving a little farther to one of their shows, if you can.

Just my 2 cents.

I might catch some heat for saying this, I know some like the idea of private transfer no paper work but personally I don't blame them given the current events that have happened in the last few years. Personally I would not want to buy a gun off the shoulder of a guy walking around a show with a flag sticking out the barrel saying "for sale", you have no idea of the legality of the gun and where it came from or what it was used for in the past, I also wouldn't sell a gun without proper documentation of transfer to cover myself for what the gun is used for after it leaves my possession.

Of course the "gunshow loophole", there is nothing to stop people from selling like that in the parking lot or at Joe's gas station down the road.

Well I am emotionally torn when people complain about a gun show. Because so often so much depends on the luck of the draw. What the dealers have, what the walk in have. Also what you are looking for and when you are there.

I have honest to God been at a show that was a bust just to find out and hour after I left some one brought in a bunch of things I would have wanted.

Also you hear people complain that there was nothing at the show and they came in the last hour of the last day of the show when everything has been picked over. (Of course that has its own pluses)

Also many time we reviewers of gun shows so not do a good job.. Someone will say, "this show was bad", and leave it at that.. Which may or may not be true.. As gun show commenter one really need to state what kind of items you were looking for and why it was bad Where as no one likes to tip their hands what they are wanting.. But some idea would be nice...

I E. If someone came from a show and said it stank the big one.. It would be nice to know that they were there looking for parts for their AR platform and all they had was older guns and ammo.. Because that way people looking for older guns and ammo would be able to use that info. LIke wise someone looking for S&W revolvers saying a show stank because of all the AR parts there would be more helpful then just a negative comment.

Trouble with gun shows, to many different people who shoot and things to shoot. Personally you know you are at a good show if there is at least one belt fed. :)

We the gun show attendee do a disservice to those who set up at those shows and promote those shows with such blanket negative comments. That then can cycle against the attendees because the next show may have fewer dealers and walk ins.

You know you are so right about that. And above the legal entanglements there is the fact you have no way of finding out if the gun functions correctly (Over the normal manual of arms). I.E At a show I saw a guy with a Bren Semi auto for sale. The price was great... But those Bren conversions are touchie things. You could be buying someones junk. The seller in this case could not tell who did the conversion or if he fired it.

I'm not really complaining about shows in decades of going to them I have left with some nice things. My only complaint is some sellers go through the trouble of getting there and setting up and have crazy high prices especially when it comes to old and collectible guns like Colt and such. A tag with $4000 dollars for a Python for example, when it can be found elsewhere for $3000 and under. Yes I know haggle is the rule but many times said sellers scowl at ya when you offer less. Did they come there to sell or hope to find a moron with a fat wallet?

If we want shows to continue the last thing we need is having a maniac's gun traced to being sold at a show as a private transfer , it will give more reason for politicians go after shows and more reason for lawyers to sue shows into non existence. Then there won't be any more shows because either the politicians made them illegal or those that open a show are too scared of being sued.

That is why I am doing my part to remove any fine Mauser rifle off the streets and safely in my lair..

NightLord, Some folks like ShootStraight some hate them. I'm still confused as to why all the animosity toward Kahlid? A couple of years back he ran busses from many of his stores to Tallahassee for a protest. Turnout wasn't very good and I doubt he'll do that again.
