Looking at new grips, for my Springfield Armory 1911. Went looking at Cabela's, but nothing in stock, but Magpul. I want something besides the rubber grip. Anyone have the Pachmayr G10, or the Hogue wood grips? Those are the two I am looking at online, but up for suggestions.

1911 grips are such personal preference. I like functional rubber grips that are as thin as I can get for any hard use/knock around 1911. I have a couple of gorgeous custom grips made by a friend that I kept on my nice SA Loaded when I had it. They look a little funny on a GI. Truth be told, I like the 8 dollar set I bought on Amazon. They are rubber slabs that look like wood...from 40 yards away. They aren't pretty but they are thin and durable.

I think the only functional difference between grips is going to be how thick they make the grip. The stock grips on RIA are THICK. The SA ones are pretty standard.

If your palms sweat, black factory grips that come with 1911 XO that looks like "rough gravel" are sweat proof.

Once you make your grip, pistol stays where it is and don't move.

It feels "rough" but in use, works surpringly well.

If you have smaller hands and/or can't easily reach the mag release, PMag grips with thumb channel are great. Cheap too.

Thanks guys, I'm checking out the double diamond grips. Very nice, will let you know which way I go. Sweating is an issue, for another month or so, as I shoot 100 to 200, each range visit( thanks to reloading and casting my little 230 grain lead nuggets) and the reason for staying away from rubber, was the cleaning solution problems I have read about, from some that clean alot. Thanks again.

I run Promag Archangel aluminum grips on my duty 1911 and really like them. They have an integral mag funnel. It goes on just like regular grips, with an extra screw to keep the funnel together. I had to put little pieces of rubber band under the screws to keep them from walking out on me, loctite would also work.

I've used them nearly three years and there are a few spots of silver showing through where I bump them into the car, wall, doorframe etc. They have held up well.

I bought a set of cheap wood Pachmyer grips to put on my New Kimber Stainless ii. I like the way the wood grips look, but I don't want to mess up the factory Kimber ones. I believe the ones I got were like $22 clearance online. 20190710_192719.jpg 20190818_204514.jpg

A good 1911 deserves nice, pretty wood grips. Look a the grips a company called Wood Caliber Grips make. They use some of the most beautiful woods. My favorite is desert iron wood. Their grips are very high quality and are reasonably priced. They will even custom build grips with wood combinations. They use one wood for the grip and inlet the diamonds in a different wood. They look very nice. They make a 1911 pop.

I like the look of wood. On those hot range days with sweaty hands the wood was difficult for me to get a hold of. That led me to the Pachmyr wrap around and VZ. I prefer the VZ but I have nerd computer soft hands so aggressive texture chews on me.

It's always nice to dress up a handgun , I spent 200 dollars on Simba Stag grips for my old reliable S&W mod 36 2" Chief 38 spl. , they were too pretty for a carry gun , they sit in my draw brand new . Should have went with wood . My other carry is a Colt New Agent , strictly a carry piece all black CT Laser grips . Now I only look how nice other guns shine with a nice pair of grips .

For some reason I have always liked Pachmayr grips on my Combat Commander. Put them on, along with a matching flat mainspring housing and added a Pachmayr magazine, shortly after I bought the gun and have used them ever since.
