Taurus TX22

That was so crazy I had to go look at mine. I bought mine about a month ago.

I have 1k rounds though it out of the box with no cleaning (a good 1/3 to 1/2 of those lead) and see zero leading in my barrel. However, I also dont see those crazy chatter marks.

After 3 barrels I'd be plenty upset. I've only used a Taurus brand customer service once (Rossi) and had pretty good results but I'm still trying to prove that their fix was permanent. I hope they take care of you.

I was going to buy a TX22 next week until I read this thread. Since I own four Taurus pistols, I am aware of some of their problems. Although, my experience with their customer service has been positive.

So is this barrel problem over a particular serial number range or random? MY SWAG is it the norm, but most owners have not yet discovered the problem. I found a local dealer that has a TX22 so that will save me FFL shipping. Before I buy any TX22, I will inspect the barrel. I wonder if the new "In Spec" barrels are in all pistols after a certain serial number? icon_confused.gif I hate to buy a new pistol only to find I need to send it in for repair. icon_%20nono2.gif

The $50 rebate ends 9/30/2019, so I may wait a while to see if I can get a newer serial number pistol. I own a Ruger SR-22 which only has a 10 round magazine. I really like the 16 round magazines for the TX22 which is what piqued my interest in another Taurus pistol. Don't need it, just want it.

I just got one, barrel is fine. I have not gotten to the range for some serious accuracy and reliability tests.

For $259+$50 rebate, it was worth a shot. I checked out the barrel before I bought it.

Handled one in the LGS again today. Yes, it does feel very good in the hand. Very light to rack. Trigger much better than my SR22. Came close to purchasing, but want to find out more about Taurus Customer service. I am sick of sending my SR22 back for the same problem over and over with this cheap junk. And I hate the stupid Ruger Trigger with the insane creep or free play that feels like the trigger spring is broke. My Phoenix shoot better and hold up better. Better Trigger etc.

I wonder if the Walther P22 is any good. I have a buddy with one, but he states it can be temperamental with ammo. I like the frame mounted safety of the Ruger. Decisions, decisions!
Have you had bad luck with the SR22?

I have not had ANY problems with the SR22. I just wished it had a larger magazine. I have had good luck with Taurus pistols which is why I am looking at the TR22.

The chattering is going to reduce the velocity of bullet and it will not be as accurate. Not something I expect from a new pistol.

Well...…….. just for giggles and grins, I checked one of the barrels of my PT111's. WAS I surprised!! The bore looked just about PERFECT! The only imperfections were some very slight scratches from the bore brush. Looking at the TX22 bore pictures, gives me second thoughts about buying one. For sure, I will check the barrel before buying; but, there is absolutely no excuse for selling these crappy barrels.

have first gen walther p22. had to go back to s&w back then, as they did the work...not sure who does it now? very problematic gun. jammed. wouldnt cycle. slide stuck open. fail to feed. you name it. work done changed trigger massively. works well now and works will all high velocity ammo and I like it, but trigger is odd from the fix...long empty pull.....

dont have a sr22, but heard good things on them.

Have a TX 22 any only problem is that it does not like hollow points (Rmington Golden) - Jams every time. Bullets have a deep cut in them after trying to cycle. Works fine with Federal Game Shock solids. A not on leading - I also have a Ruger 22/45 lite and have experienced extreme leading similar to what others have shown being pulled out. This happened only with Thunder Crud - so maybe a problem with brand.

Seemed like a nice pistol when they were first introducing it. Liked the look and ergonomics appeared great. Then came the "sewer pipe" rifling pictures. Would only consider one now if I could look it over. I'm about at the point with anything Taurus one needs to be able to personally visually inspect it. Their quality control department takes too many sick and vacation days.

I bought one Aug 1. Serial # 1PT0340xx.

The barrel is ok and there is no leading issue no matter what ammo I have tried.

The problem is FTF. After about 500 rounds of various ammo, I've had only 5 or 6 magazines run without a FTF.

I'm convinced the plastic magazines are the problem.

I'm going to send it back to Taurus and when they return it, trade it in.

I bought it to have fun with plinking and it's anything but fun.

I bought one this past weekend, and although I haven't had time to shoot it much, I did put a couple mags of CCI Mini Mags through it.
It shot fine, accurate and no problems yet.
I looked at the barrel, and it looks good.
Hoping I got a good one.

I shot my TX22 again today. I really like it alot. I only shoot plated bullets through it and I haven't had any problems with the barrel leading. My second mag that comes with gun had issues feeding which is funny since I haven't really used that mag before. I'm going to take it apart and check for plastic burrs that I can clean up.

Same here. One of the mags that came with mine is a lot more prone to cause FTFs.

I think I will disassemble both of mine and try what you are suggesting.

I'm off work tomorrow so I will go to the range and see if it made any difference. Let us know how it goes on your end.

I loved my TX22, ran flawlessly, ate any ammo I fed it. Was a really fun gun to shoot & had a great trigger. Then this happened. Gun was three months old. Sent to Taurus 8 weeks later got it back. They replaced the slide & recoil pin (???). Taurus fired 32 rds of RN MINI MAGS through it. When it came back to my FFL I removed the slide & I saw the exact same thing happening again. Being a long standing customer they gave me a decent trade in price. That was and will be my last purchase of Taurus. I would recommend that you check the inside of your slides tx22 crack #2.jpg

That's not good.

Someone is going to wind up hurt bad or worse shooting these things.

I don't want to shoot mine after seeing that. I'm going back to my original plan to just send it back to Taurus and when they return it, take it unopened to where I got and trade it in.

Ugh.

I was going to buy one of these this week for my mom to use (she wants to learn to shoot and I don't currently have any noob-friendly autos). I handled one at the LGS and liked the form factor and the ergos. Now I'm seriously reconsidering. I could handle regular inspection of a gun with known issues, but I sure wouldn't put one in the hands of a new shooter...

Maybe I'll ask the LGS when they can get one of the new Kel-tecs in...

Have you had bad luck with the SR22?

If you buy a Walther .22 buy the “PPQ .22”. The PPQ is made at a different factory (alongside the PPQ centerfire line) than the P22. I have one and shoot it suppresses and unsuppressed, I have lots of rounds through it with no problems. The 12+1 capacity is nice as well.

The “P22” has a reputation of being picky and/or jamming.

After waiting 6 weeks, the THIRD barrel arrived in Friday’s mail. As did the first and second barrels, this one has chatter marks on the lands from the chamber to the muzzle. This is unacceptable. I plan to shoot it this coming week. I expect the same results of the first two barrels: lead deposits so severe that the rifling is covered, by the end of the second magazine. How does Taurus Quality Control Department allow this into the inventory system? Where is Receiving QC, Liaison Engineering/QC, Production QC? Remington lost my business due to poor quality control, another story in itself. Taurus now loses me to poor quality control. The TX-22 pistol has a good design, but part of that design (the barrel, three in my case) is poorly executed.

The P22 I used was way beyond being picky about ammo or occasional jamming; it was a full fledged jamomatic when it worked at all! Besides needing frequent cleaning every 25 or so rounds (when it did fire), the trigger pull was horrible and the sights became loose, along with the extended barrel shroud. Needless to say accuracy wasn't all that great either. Have to say it definitely took First Place in being the worst pistol I have ever shot!

Being a Walther fan I was going to buy a P22 long ago, but after many reviews such as yours I didn’t and then Walther put out their PPQ .22 and reviews were much better and it had some good qualities in the design. I bought one of those and have had no problems with it with different types of ammo.

Photos of my TX22’s THIRD barrel from Taurus. These are the best photos I am able to capture with the equipment I have. I have access to a bore scope, with image capture capability, but that is magnified. These images are NOT magnified; this is seen with eye balls.

My TX-22 has 132 rounds thought it: 100 with the first bad barrel, and 32 through the second bad barrel. I inspected the area indicated in your photo. At 132 rounds my slide is starting to show the same wear pattern.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm also sorry to say that it's only going to get worst. I for the life of me cannot understand why Taurus is letting these issues happen.
